galaxy tug

Hi All,

Thinking of purchasing a Galaxy Ghia 2.0 tdci 6speed manual 140bhp(2008),any advice would be grateful regarding the towing capability/performance on this vehicle as a tug.

Kind Regards

GER

Hi,

We tow a 1600kg mtplm twin axle lunar with a 2.0 tdci S-max,(Galaxy coupe!!?) it has adequate power and excellent stability, some road tests have rated the s-max slightly above the Galaxy for towing stability due to its sportier suspension.

We replaced our Sharan with an S-max rather than the Galaxy as the extra headroom in the back of the Galaxy was not actually any use to us (headroom in the S-max is actually better than the Sharan but you are sat on the floor to do this) The S-max was cheaper and better looking, (but I have heard that there are bigger discounts on the Galaxy)

like garfield we went for the S max due to its sportier stance and better handling, it truly is a very very good car the handling and ride quality is seconf to non in the mpv sector and the brakes are without doubt the best ive ever had.

The only doubt i have up to now is the engine ! im not too sure about it, its a fine unit once running and is very refined at motorway speeds but i find it just a touch temprimental and highly strung, it tends to just stop for no reason when cold and stalls even easier than my seat alhambra did and that stalled easy ! but it seems to be pretty frugal and is returning 41 mpg on the comute from stockport to manchester and when towing my coachman vip 530/4 at 1650 kgs laden the car still returns between 34 and 36 to the gallon.

Oh and the Smax has 154 bhp from the 2.0 tdci engine as oposed to the 140 from the vw sourced 2.0 tdi engine.

Of course the 175hp 2.2 tdci is now available in the S-max, It's faster on acceleration and top speed than my old Golf GTI
