Gary - Ultraheat question please

Hi Gary

We have a 2007 caravan with Ultraheat fire. When away recently it was chilly during the night so I turned the setting to 500 and the inner dial to about 4. It was OK for about 15 minutes then went cold. Am I doing something wrong or is this the situation you have spoken of of the thermostat being too near the fire? The temperature was reading only about 18 degrees on a thermometor so it was not very warm in that I would have thought the heating would not work at that temperature. Can you give me details of the solution thermostat please.

Many thanks

Chris

Hi Chrisseylizzie,

The remote thermostat that you need is FFC 2 Part no 34201-01 and is shown on page 6 of the current Ultraheat brochure.

I have fitted this to 2 of my vans and it improves the heater a lot.

In the interim you may find that there is a little spare lead on the existing thermostate that is clipped onto the gas thermostat at bottom r/h of heater . You may be able to move it away a bit to help matters.

Putting the thermostat at the bottom of the fire is yet another bit of stupid design!

I found that by using an 'energy meter' on the mains to the van I could see when the heater was cutting in and out. As you said the heater didnt appear to get going before it cut out and I believe this is why so many people have moaned about a lack of output from the fire. Once I had fitted the remote sensor the fire began to really push the heat out.

The sensor is easy to fit. It plugs in to the left side of the ultraheat control box. Remove the existing plug (if one is fitted)and plug the new sensor in.

Hope this helps,

Jim

First, James and I will have to agree to disagree, it's my very firm opinion that fitting the remote temperature sensor to the gas thermostat is the very best position for it.

I've been recommending and selling my own cheaper version for fitting there for five or six years without problem, however Truma's more recent 'copy' has a fundimental flaw in it's design that slows it's reaction time enough to make the difference!

The answer to this question though and assuming everything otherwise is working correctly, is No4 on the dial? This equate to 14 or 16degC so it's set to low, it's roughly 3.5degs per number ending at 32C on 9.

The wattage setting should be set to suit the hookup amperage available, 1kw for 10A and 2kw on 16A supplies.

500w only if your stuck with a 6A hookup, or as you have, background heating at night, but, set to perhaps No6

Please feel free to contact me directly via my website....www.arcsystems.biz

I've got a slightly different sensor being 'field' tested as we speak, hopefully this will work as expected and be available in about 10 days
