Ok guys, I've been trying to find out information about getting a LPG bottle refilled in Europe. I haven't been very sucessful. Been scouring all the gas threads on this forum but I haven't got a clear picture yet. Been scouring all the gas threads on this site but I haven't got a clear picture yet. From what I can gather a lot of people buy a bottle and regulator when they get over there.

If anyone has done/ or does this could you please try and answer a few questions for me. By the way I have a converted LDV campervan not a caravan or motorhome and am looking at doing approx 4 months through Europe (including France Spain Portugal Italy Poland Germany - a big anticlockwise circle).

1. Are the cyclinders that you buy refilled or do you just swap them at petrol stations/ gas suppliers for a full one.

2. What is the biggest size bottle that you can purchase in Europe (don't want to be stopping every few days).

3. Are the regulators anything like the regulators that would be used on a 13kg calor propane bottles that will take the screw in regulator or the 13kg patio gas cyclinder with the 27mm clip on regulator?

4. Or do you think I would be better off getting a 19kg gas bottle in the UK (as I only have to supply a fridge and a two burner cooker) and seeing if that would go the distance?

Any tips/ advice or suggestions would be greatly appeciated

Thanks

Aussie Rod

UK bottles take bottles can't be filled in Europe generally and French Bottles differ to Spanish bottles and others. As far as I'm aware the only Pan European standard are Camping Gaz bottles. http://www.campingaz.com/sunbeam/distribution/index_cartridge.htm

New UK issued BP gas light cylinders can only be exchanged in Austria and Scandinavia at present.

About time they updated their web site :)

But I don't know anywhere that sells them in th UK so GUESS the network of outlets is still small in the UK. May be Lutz and others could comment on the other countries networks.

Thanks for the replies guys. You are right Chris. it is about time that BP updated their website and also answered their phones. I have had no responses from either phone or email enquiries. They just hang up on you on the phone! It doesn't seem that they are too keen to push their product. Will keep searching for info but any other responses are much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip Graham. I'm now thinking of getting the 10kg BP light and then buy another one when I get onto the mainland (europe). I just don't know what regulators the european BP gas light bottles have got. Anyone got any ideas/ info on that?

Cheers Rod
