Gas BP Lite

To anwer some of the questions that have been asked about how much gas you should need to take away with them. We have just spent 9 weeks in Europe and took 2 Full bottles of BP Lite. After using the gas fire a lot at the begining of the holiday. Cooking every day with Hob, Oven or B.B.Q we eventually had to change the first bottle at the end of the 8th week. Think this was very good to last so long.

That's fascinating, because it exactly tallies with our experience.

We changed to 2 x 10kg gaslight and used it first for five weeks in October in Germany, cooking and using some heating where the electric price was set too high, and then this April we went away to Northern Germany and Holland for a month, and the first bottle ran out just before we came home.

In my experience it is the use of the gas heating that uses the gas up,last year i only used 1 6kg bottle all summer that was for water heating, gas bbq and cooking.

I have used 1 13kg bottle on a 5 day rally in the winter.

Perhaps it's worth mentioning that BP Gaslight bottles can be exchanged in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland and Portugal.

Lutz Have they changed since last year as we could not change our BP Lite bottle anywhere in the Karnten area of Austria because of the different fitting they would only sell us a new bottle with their fitting on and then we would have to have bought a new regulator to use it. They fill BP Lite bottles at one of the Caravan Parks on Ossiachersee but could not fill ours because they did not have the fitting for a UK bottle. We did not try this year obviously as we still had gas in our first bottle and did not run out till on the Rhine stop a week before coming home. I cannot believe BP did not make the fitting universal in the first place.

I have no experience with BP Gaslight so I can't give you a definitive answer, but I do know that you can obtain a set of adapters for each country.

It's a little misleading guidance. I assume sites with EHU were used.

If you need to use a fridge on gas you'll find it's a very different story when away for long periods like us and if you are also using gas for water heating that reduces it even more.

Hi

Ref BP Gas Light I had changed to this "believing" the BP website about availability in Europe. I understand that the bottles are actually manufactured in Norway and BP adopted them!

This is the response I finally crowbarred out of BP -

At the present moment the UK is not part of the European Exchange Programme, the same as Poland and Portugal, however this is currently under review. You can purchase a NEW BOTTLE in the following countries , but would not be able to exchange in the UK on your return. Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria. You may require a different regulator/ connector from your local Truma dealer. For more information, please log onto www.bpgaslight.com- European Exchange Programme.
