Gas fitting

Hi. Out in France for a few months and just gone to change the gas bottles over (2 lightweights). At the last service the gas pipe from bottle to regulator was changed to one which is hand tightened by a big plastic wheel. While it fitted the now empty bottle perfectly I'm damned if I can get it to fit the full one. Removed bottle and pipe from locker to make it easier but to no avail. Any advice would be welcome before it throw it nearby canal. Thanks.

I have no idea about lightweight gas bottles but remember that ordinary lpg bottles have left hand threads.
Sorry if this is obvious to you but at least your query is bumped to the top of the forum webpage

All the POL connectors with handwheels I have seen have a rubber nosecone (rather than the tradtional metal-to-metal union).
The nosecone hasn't come off by any chance? .....or even the full cylinder having a 'spare' nosecone already stuck in the outlet?

Does it still connect with the "old" bottle and is the new one the same make? If "yes" then check new one for burr at start of thread. Anyone on site with the same bottle type and with a standard screw in connector? If "yes' ask if you can try your new bottle onto their connector. Bit baffling though I admit.

We are assuming that both bottles are standard UK Calorlite. However, if they are not, then be aware that Swedish/Belgian bottles use a fitting which looks exactly the same as a UK POL, but in fact has a slightly different thread. (Adapters are available to 21.8 LH thread, but as far as I know not to UK POL).

(I do actually have a Swedish composite lightweight bottle, and the necessary adapter)

Whilst the Eu has harmonised the gas pressures used, they haven't standardised the connection threads of gas bottles. So as Vic suggests you may be trying to mate the pigtail to an incompatible bottle. Assuming you have the bulkhead type regulator, You will need to get pigtails to for the new bottles you have bought.

Whilst changing the pigtails yourself is permitted in the UK, the local gas regs in other countries may require the job to be done by a professional.
