Gas leak in a static caravan

My static caravan wes reconnected for the new season and a few hours after this connection there was a smell of gas. As it was late evening an outside contractor was called and shut down the gas supply, advising me that the there was a leak in the ? that controls the gas pressure. The follwing day the park gas team visited and said that they could not find a leak and reconnected us. I am still in discussion with the park and they are awaiting a report from the contractor. There is no doubt in my mind that there was a gas leak as I could smell it. What I don't know though is what my rights are in this siutaion. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear about your gas leak, they can be very worrying.

I assume that both the outside contractor and the park gas team are Gas Safe registered. This is an organisation that oversees the safe use of gas and each registered operative should carry an identification card.

It sounds as though the leak may be in or around the regulator which controls the pressure between the cylinder (I am assuming the gas comes from a cylinder) and the pipework/appliances.

The initial contractor took the correct action by turning the gas off if he suspected a leak and could't repair it. The park team again can only take appropriate action if they tested the system and found it to be safe.

My comments may or may not answer your question but whoever works on the system should leave it in a safe condition to use.

I am not sure what rights you are asking about.

However you did exactly the right thing, because whenever a gas leak is suspected it is always best to ere on the side of safety and get it checked out. assuming you could not contact the Park Gas Team, then the correct and responsible thing to do is to call a registered gas fitter to test it.

What your responsibilities are will depend on a number of facts that you don't tell us, for example;

Whilst you started your post with "My static Caravan". It is not clear from this if you own it or rent from the site or someone else. Equally you don't tell us if the gas is supplied by pipes from a central tank or if each caravan has its own bottles.

These factors affect who is responsible for what. You would need to check the small print of any contracts you may have.

Tony is quite right when he expects both the Park team and the contractor you called should be Gas Safe registered

But his last sentence is slightly wrong as a Gas Safe fitter is responsible for ensuring the system is left is a'safe'condition.

Now that may mean safe to use, or sealed so it poses no danger.

I have asked to see a copy of the report from the external contractor as my real concerns is that there was a gas leak which the park did not detect when they re connected me and they have now fixed.
