Gas Oil!

Hi
We are heading back to France next week for a 3 week holiday. One thing we noticed last year was that many of the petrol stations dont seem to use the word diesel and instead call it gas oil is this correct as this issue caused us a bit of confusion last year basically is gas oil normal diesel that we can use?
Many Thanks!

In some rural garages ( and perhaps others ) you may even see two grades of gasoil or gazoil. the cheapest - which is very much cheaper - is meant for agricultural use and is, I believe, what we call (or used to) 'TVO' or tractor vapourising oil. Do not be tempted by the low price as you engine really won't like it !
You will also see - as here - more than one grade of 'proper' diesel - one propbably much the same as city diesel.

……some confusion here!

If the pump is marked Gazoil then it is a diesel pump for road going vehicles.
Some may have more additives and even Bio diesel but will be clearly marked.

TVO is a paraffin fuel and nowadays a similar type fuel is used in portable heaters(......and another in jet aircraft)
It used to be commonly used in farm tractors but not since the 1960’s
I have never seen it in 36 years of visiting France.

If it is Bio deisel stay well clear as a post was put up on another forum saying that people have had problems with their engines. Just use Gasoil and you will be safe.
