Gas supplies on the Continent

For those who are contemplating long-term touring around Europe and are not aware already, BP offer their own exchangeable plastic gas cylinders (under the trade name BP GasLight) already in a number of countries, notably Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, UK, and Austria. They are currently being introduced in Germany. Portugal, Poland and Turkey will follow in the next few months. The connections will remain specific according to local standards but by using an appropriate adapter, it does at least mean that an empty cylinder can be exchanged against a full one in any of the participating countries.

Of course, you've got to remove the adaptor before exchanging the bottle. But without the adaptor the BP GasLight bottles are the same throughout Europe.
