Geist (and others) Water pumps

Hi

I've recently purchased a pre-owned (that's posh talk for second-hand) Geist LV 555 Xclusiv. The previous owner had used the caravan's water system when hooked-up to a direct mains supply and had disconnected the cable from the back of the submersible pump connection and only had the cable going to a 12v pump under the seating next to the Truma water heater.

The sale didn't include a submesible pump to use with an Aquaroll so I purchased one and set it all up with the Aquaroll, during the setting up, I disconnected the cable from the 12v pump and connected it to the submersible pump connection.

When I turned on the power and opened the taps the submersible pump worked fine and eventually filled up the water heater.

However, no matter how long I left it, no water came out of the taps.

Q: Should I have left the 12v pump connected and ran another cable from the pump to the submersible pump connection?

Short of asking a Geist dealer I haven't been able to get the answer anywhere. HELP

Regards

Bob

Hello Robert.

It is difficult give precise and accurate information as I cannot see the caravan or test it, but, I suspect the caravan has been arranged to use the external fitting to fill the on board tank and not supply the taps.

It sounds as though the on board pump needs to be connected. - Or rearrange the piping to operate only from the external fitting.

Hi John

Thanks for the comments, which are probably very near the mark.

I was passing through Lincoln on Monday and tppk the opportunity to call in at CamperUK whom are Geist agents, unfortunately they weren't able to help much without seeing the caravan as you said yourself.

As I said, the previous owner removed the end connection from the submersible pump and stuck it on the end of a hosepipe connected to a mains supply, at the same time installing the 12v pump for which he used the electrical feed which was originally connected to the submersible pump inlet.

To be fair he did explain it to me and said I could just run a cable from the 12v pump to the original water inlet, whilst this may solve the problem (I'm going to try it at the weekend)I can't understand why the submersible won't feed the taps as it is activated when the tap is open.

I have checked that the vaves are in the correct position for filling the Truma water heater in accordance with the manual.

I think the your suggestion to rearrange the piping will probably be the answer. The caravan is in storage only a short distance away but I don't have time until the weekend so I thought by then I might have some idea of what to do.

Many thanks.

Bob
