I have just bought a Geist LV550 after looking around dealers and spending hours on the net doing reasurch.
We had allready decided on the rear fixed bed layout as it offers more space around the kitchen, and no conjestion when comming in and out of van.
We first looked at a Firestorm but liked the quality of the Bailey, but the rear bed was too short. The Swift was a little longer but the quallity was not as good.
Then I came across the Geist and was bowled over by the solid construction quality of fixture and fittings and the size of the beds. I also negociated a very good price with Ropers of Catterick and the agreed to hold it for a few weeks with just a small deposit.
The story of this van as far as I can gather, is that a director of one of the large British manufacturers saw a space in the market for a British style van built to German standards, which resulted in what I have now.
We have only used it for one weekend so far, but first impressions have not been altered. Yes of course it is heavy but we tow with a Merc Vito (100 bhp panel van) and going over the M62 I only had to change into 4th twice each way and used no more fuel than with our last caravan (93 Coachman). The stability at speed was phenomenal, even when overtaking waggons.
Anyone looking for a new caravan who has a large tow car should check out these, you will be, like me, seriously impressed.
