Gelcoat- How do you alter the colour?

Greetings,

I ask this question because, immediately prior to selling the last van I had a tiny scrape on the back panel. The damage didn't go through the entire skin and I effected a repair with white Gelcoat.

Although I couldn't tell where the repair had been by touch I could discern a difference in colour between the white of the Gelcoat and the white of the body.

Is there something that I could have added to the Gelcoat when mixing or has each manufacturer got its own colour of white.

Gelcoat fades and discolours over time however you can get colour matching pigments to mix in with the gelcoat to change its colour. Most decent boat chandlers sell them. A gelcoat specialist will carry a selection of pigments and mix up a blend to suit but it takes a fair amount of skill to effect a totally invisible repair and over time the repair will probably fade at a different rate to the main panel.

Greetings Again,

Thanks for the replies.

Hopefully the dealer won't notice it .

Start praying for a poor weather day on changeover!!!
