Sitting here in the intermittent sunshine, enjoying the start of the bank holiday weekend and the benefits of being on a full service pitch........and i start thinking to myself, 'why are the majority of the fully serviced pitches taken up by motorhomes???'.....i accept that its a free country and everyone has a choice, and there may be certain people with limited mobility that need the facilities close to hand.....but my twisted mind keeps telling me that in motorhome 'one up man ship' world....they had to go for the most expensive pitch to express their superiority over us meagre caravan dwellers.... rant over

I don’t really get your point. Surely a motor home user is just as keen to do away with on site chores as you are.

What you may be seeing is what struck me whilst at Forest of Dean three weeks back. Caravans were much in the minority among motor homes and campervans. In fact even among caravans the majority seemed to be on winter seasonal pitches. So you may just be aware of the growing numbers of motor homes that there seem to be these days.

my point is that none of the motorhomes are hooked up to the full service facilities and they are all still driving to the MH point on the site to fill and empty......like a pencil with no lead...POINTLESS!!!

Got it, I’m not deaf! Think you should just sit back now and enjoy the sunshine. Unlike the holiday ralliers about 0.5 mile from me who have only rain and more to come. I’ll get on with decorating.

I get your point but surely they can fill from the pitch tap. Emptying the waste tank though must still need them to move the vehicle so possibly they have less use for the service pitch than the rest of us. I can still manage the water duties though so unless the pitch gives you an advantage other than the water I would not pay the extra.

I say celebrate their success at being able to rub together a few more pennies than us mere caravanners More power to their elbows - It all about personal choices, and each to their own. Its not matter to moan about, unless it is depriving you of something.

But in the context of this thread, its likely that if the motorhomer's had chosen caravans, they'd still be likely to use the serviced pitches and book them ahead of you, so whats the difference?

As far as I am concerned the fully serviced pitch is ideal for both caravan and motor home.
Easy to keep the fresh water tank topped up,
Easy to connect the onboard waste tank to the drain, They all need a dump drain.
Easy to empty the brown waste, on some,
Easy to link into the tv cable.
More security of tenure maybe.

I don’t want a MH but the time may come when the caravan gets too much so a change is possible.
Enjoy your hols B)

As a former motorhome owner ( who looked down on Caravan owners with scorn: Clearly I was the superior holiday maker   ) DD is right about the fully serviced pitch, as otherwise filling up the water or emptying the grey waste meant de-camping the whole unit.

Oobuzz the other way of looking at it, if you must be competitive, is that motorhoming is for people who haven't got the courage to tow.

Alternatively each to their own.

Relax and enjoy your holiday

General observation, no moan but when we were away last weekend at Barnard Castle , I estimated that there was more Motor homes than there was caravans on the site , and even a 5th wheeler motorhome , some expensive ones too, the one in front of me was £7ok plus !!

My findings too when at Bracelands in the Forest of Dean. More campers and motor homes visited that tourers, and quite a number of those were seasonal pitches. I now know what it feels like to be an endangered species!

Almost certainly, as most motor homes are based on commercial van chassis, and they are the backbone of delivery services in and around towns and cities where the emmision bans are most likely to be introduced. And of course for light haulage around the country. There are also likely to be all electric versions too, espescially in cities where there is a lot of stop start driving. Recently announced is the hybrid London taxi.

Bring back the electric milk floats and recyclable glass bottles. :)

Just be thankful that motorhomers are not occupying grass pitches, have you seen the churned up mess that some of them make as they wheelspin their way off slightly damp grass?

There’s a holiday rally a short distance from me. It started on Thursday and the field was very wet even before then. Since then it has hardly stopped raining. I think that the marshalls will find it interesting extricating caravans and motor homes regardless. But as it’s a field any damage will be less serious than were it a commercial or club grass pitch.
