Generator top for solarpanel?

Hi All

I wish to go hook up free and have two 50w panels, 195 amps of battery. We use a fair bit of leccy and was wondering if there is any value in buying a small generator to top up batteries

Would a small generator charge quicker than the 100 w of solar panel?

Thanks
Mike

That's a lot of battery power!
Assuming that you are using a charge controller and that with all that solar some of your electrical needs is covered by the SP's in daylight hours why would you need a generator.
Assume that you're only likely to run low on battery power late in to the evening or night.
Unless you're camping solo with no other campers nearby you'll be a 'billy no mates' with genny noise

Apart from lighting and TV/Hi-fi what is going to gobble up the battery power?
May be change to LED lighting to save on battery use and the cost of a genny.

Hi Easyvanner
Thanks for the reply, we do run a 22" tv (whoops) but only for a couple of hours in the evening. Just wondered if the battery needed topped in the afternoon would the genny put as much in as the panels?

Have just ordered LED bulbs before I read your post

Regards
Mike

Even the smallest generators produce 650Watts, thats 6.5 times that of your solar panels. You would not need the panels, but you would get the noise from the generator.
