We've ordered it from Geist Direct in Gateshead (actually nearer to Durham). I hope that 'Geist' was just unfortunate in his/her experience and that our caravan will be better. I'm hopeful that this will be the case as I've heard a lot of good things about these vans and, unfortunately, you can always find someone who sadly gets a 'bad apple'.

I honestly hope that you *don't* have problems - because, if you do, you may well experience the treatment meted out to us by Geist.

Ours is also a 2006 van, purchased this year - and, if I was you, I'd get a written confirmation from Geist that your own 2006 model comes with the full warranty.

I spoke to the Geist MD and he appeared to be trying to insinuate that because we had bought a 2006 model (albeit only a couple of months ago) that it *somehow* didn;t have quite the same cover as one of their 2007 models (he, of course, had some difficuly in being specific - as, legally, his insinuation was rubbish)

I was genuinely surprised that Geist would treat customers in this way - or, at least I *was* surprised, until I spoke to owners of pre-2006 Geist vans which came on the BPW chassis, and which distorted due to an excessive axle cut out on the longitudinal members.

Theirs were not particularly happy tales of Geist service - and although they did manage to get the repairs done under warranty, some of them were very unhappy about associated damage that Geist refused to cover. For instance, on one van that I saw, the side wall had 'dropped' a few millimeters due to the chassis failure, causing a gap to appear in the roof/wall join. Although the chassis was repaired, the resulting gap was not.

Happily, the 2006, onwards, models used Alko chassis and it seems that those problems are a thing of the past.

Bad customers service from Geist, however, still appears to be alive and well.

I have put the matter onto the finance company who, as the legal owners of the van, will doubtless sort things out. That will not, however, take away the extremely unpleasant taste left by the deliberate indifference of Geist and their amusingly titled 'Gold Star Service Agents.

I was serious when I suggested staying away from Geist - not a firm to buy from, in my opinion.

I really hope that you can get your problems sorted out, Geist. We may have had second thoughts if we'd known about your experiences before placing our order and paying our deposit but we're going ahead because we can't really afford not to. Fingers crossed that our van will be ok.

Thanks - and I really hope you don't have any problems. If all goes well I think you'll be happy with the caravan, the problems are far more with the importers (Geist) than with the manufacturer (LMC)

You've put my mind at rest a bit! I think I'll let my husband handle any problems as he's much more assertive than I am in these matters - loath though I am to admit this in these days of sexual equality!

All the best

Hi Clare,

I have recenlty returned from Germany, where I bought a new Hymer Eriba 580. It has fairly spacious end bathroom, twin fixed beds, kitchen area with fair amount of worktop space and an end "U" shaped lounge area, which converts into double bed, all on a single axle. With its green hue cupboard doors and hidden ambient lighting, it's a beautiful looking caravan, very comfortable and roomy.

Its lenght is 650 cm, width 230cm, 1,700kg in weight and cost me
