Why am I paying £50 a month +, for global warming? It would be worth it if it happens.
When it is finally proven that man made global warming is ballony, can I claim the taxes back?

How are you paying £50 a month for it? Is it part of the Council Tax now - police, refuse collection and global warming??

You pay extra for your electricity,( as a tax) air fares, vehicle excise licence, etc, etc, mostly thanks to that blockhead Brown.

Ah well, can't get too excited about that. If that wasn't there there'd only be another tax under another name.

A neighbour reckons that this mystical (my word, not hers) global warming is all my fault because I drive a Range Rover V8!

I like to think I do my bit for climate change - taken four foreign holidays this year so that's eight flights, and I went to Vancouver for 24 hours earlier in the year to do a noise assessment. And I drive a 4x4. I bought a house on a hill just outside Tewkesbury and if it hasn't turned into a nice little seaside fishing port by the time I retire thanks to rising sea levels I will be very disappointed.

Good boy!
My wife and I fly to Australia every 2 years to visit her parents, both in their 80's, and as we stop for petrol at Singapore, it is classed as 2 flights each way, total cost in "green" taxes, £400!
BUT, if we stop over for longer than 24 hrs, the taxes drop, how does that work?
It wouldn't be so bad if the taxes were used constructively, but as a previous post states, it's just an excuse to tax you extra.
My car will do over 40 mpg on a run solo, still have to pay over £200 vel, I feel sorry for those who run a large fourby.
It's not worth emigrating either, as all the governments are at it.

Airport taxes are having a negative effect on the British tourism industry as people look elsewhere for places where airport tax is minimal. In some cases airport tax is almost 50% of their ticket!

IT is not the airport tax that is keeping tourists away it's the dam weather, and while the gulf stream continues to flow south of dover it won't change as all that nice warn high pressure air that europe gets wont come our way.
now why is this happening er lets see could be something to do with climate change
I distictly remember some professor about 10 years ago saying that one big effect of global waming would be the melting of the northen ice caps that would force colder water further south in the gulf of mexico and change the direction of the gulf stream and the sirrocco winds, the effects would be worldwide with areas of drought in the wet lands and floods in dry climates. the effect on brittan would not nessesarly mean higher temperatures but infact just the opposite with harsher winters and colder summers with heavy rain fall as the colder low pressure cyclones come across the atlantic

sound familier ah well just keep paying the tax and be happy that he and others were wrong,
at least your not paying 25% of your earnings on poll tax after the taxman had his 30%
besides you can allways sell the van and buy a boat.

You still have the Poll Tax in Yorkshire??
no we don't it was a figure of speech, to describe "as was" in relation to "as is" at one time I worked out that 85% of my earnings went back out in tax one way or the other.either by direct tax PAYE, NI and poll tax, or indirect tax ie VAT fuel duty road tax ect,
these days it is around 60% mainly due to the shift from direct tax to indirect a least one can have some control over indirect taxes by modifying the things we spend our earnings on.
smaller cars are now much cheaper to buy and run than big cars time was there was no difference or very little exept for the fuel used. more insulation and a eco freindly stance on housing cuts heating costs in some cases near to zero,
all have come about because of the climate change debate and a shift in acceptance that something is going on wether it be man made or natural can still be open to question, but one thing is for sure theres no going back.
so to answer the OP,s question.
no you can't have a refund unless I get my poll tax money back just dont hold your breath while waiting.

I fully accept that climate change is happening, what I do object too, is having to pay taxes for something that is purely "cyclic" and not man made.
We had the warm period around 1000 ad, Greenland was named because it was, and farmed at the time, we had the cold period around 1500 ad, where an army escaped from Hereford during the civil war, across the frozen river Wye.
Cape Verde, discovered in the 1700's was just that, green, now there isn't a blade of grass on the island.
Where it's going to end this time no one knows.
I distinctly remember in the 80's the boffins were forecasting another ice age - truth - no one knows.
Just keep paying the taxes!
Anyway off to Bournemouth tomorrow from sunny South Wales.
