Good news for Ford fans.

It is now official - Ford will be putting a 2.2 TDCI engine into the S-max,Mondeo and Galaxy with an output of 175 PS.

Should be a great engine to tow with.I think the one thing that was lacking in the current cars was lack of power compared to the old Mk3's which were available with the former 2.2 engine.

Might be worth looking at them in a years time when they are on Ford direct.

That is good news, and I understand that within the next 18 months Ford will be fitting a DSG-type gearbox which offers auto benefits with near manual economy. If its as good as the VW-Audi box it will be welcome. Volvo V70 alraedy uses one.

I've just been looking at the pictures of the S-max titanium s 2.2tdci, I wish we'd kept the Sharan another 18 months, Still, our 2.0 s-max manages our Lexon 640 with power to spare.

If they gave the 2.2 S-max 4wd it would hit the economy but what a towcar!!

That would be a pretty awesome towcar !! Incidently what is the kerbweight of the S-max TDCI with a driver and tank of fuel etc?

our s max is the 2.0 tdci manual zetec and has a kerbweight of 1760 kgs. it tows our 2007 coachman vip 530/4 with ease and has more than enough power.

the 2.2 may be an improvement but in all honesty the car doesnt need it.
