Hi Dot,

We went & had a look at the Gart site in Callendar just recently. It has residential vans as well, but they are in their own area. The site is clean & tidy and toilet facilities are up to Caravan Club standards (if you are a member)

The touring vans seem to be in one small area, but there were only a few on site when we visited. The site is on the outskirts of Callendar and apparently there is fishing on site as well.

The Trossachs caravan site is not one which we have stopped on as it is too near to home for us.I remember visiting it a good number of years ago. They also run a bike hire business from there as well.It is well placed for Aberfoyle and the Trossachs, both of which are just along the road. The site looked ok when we were there, but cannot comment on it as we haven't been recently.

Have you checked out the reviews on:-

Hi Dot,

We have stayed at The Gart three years running and booked to go again in May. I can highly recommend it, especially if you have children, as part of the playarea is under cover and overall it's a very good playarea, easily seen from many of the pitches.

There are pitches around the perimeter of the park, which are quieter, away from amenities block, playarea and central grass area. As Maureen says the toilet / shower block is up to Caravan Club standards.

It's very easy to get to, good access and arrivals area, friendly staff, no downsides really, maybe not the most spectacular scenery in the area. Some may consider to be a little expensive per night, but I don't. I think all pitches have water / drain.

Callander has supermarkets, bars, restaurants etc.

We also stayed at Maragowan in Killin at the start of the month. This is a peaceful site by the river. Good scenery, short walk into Killin, very small playarea and a wee burn for the kids to splash about in. Caravan Club standard facilities.

We would stay at either again with no hesitation, but we prefer The Gart, mainly due to the fact that it's a shorter drive from Dundee, it feels a bit more spacious and the playarea is a huge factor for us, with an 8 and 4 year old.

Enjoy,

Alex.

For me it would have to the Forestry site at Cobleland just outside Aberfoyle. Used to visit this site as a child every weekend in the 70's and revisiteed in 2005 and wasnt disapointed. Easy walk into aberfoyle via the disused railway , pure peace and tranquility and the river Forth running along side

Hi Dot,

NOT Maragowan, good site as it is, but it is a very long way from the Trossachs.

The Gart would be my first choice followed by Keltie Bridge. I once had a look at the Cobleand site near Aberfoyle - drove in, drove round and drove out.

I once wrote an illustrated article on the Trossachs, based at the Gart, the year Gart won the site of the year award.

Hi, Many thanks for all your replies. I think we might try Gart. Anyone stayed at Braidhaugh in Crieff, considering it for a 2nd week. Many thanks once again.
