...thanks for all the fish!

This forum has all the foundations in place to be a fantastic aid to the caravanner both with the tech support and general chit-chat.

However there are one or two problems that need to be addressed.

The forum software is terrible and should be junked in favour of something more user-friendly. There's loads of free software out there that could do a much better job than this. I hope the publisher didn't pay for it!

Those comments are a waste of time, detracting from the focus of the threads. Proper forums don't seem to need them.

The constant wittering of a self-opiniated bigot, made up to moderator to try and tame him totally ruins this forum and he should have his IP address blocked as it would be elsewhere except perhaps the Ramblers Association. This forum would be far better without him. And on that note I bid you farewell as I'm not prepared to read his drivel anymore. I can't think of a single post where he has actually contributed something to the subject at hand.

Clive, you can find me anytime on http://forums.lr4x4.com/ moderating the Range Rover forum. Hoping to spend a week in Dorset next year so maybe we can hook up for a greenlane or two. For the uneducated, that's the sort of thing that 4x4 owners do when they aren't towing a trailer or playing on an offroad site somewhere.

At least the ones that I know do!

Let's hope you see sense and vote with your feet. I for one won't be looking in to see what new and interesting posts are here.

Of course that's provided anyone see's this post at all, if the Goderator see's it first.

Deano, Kanga is not Moderator as a decision has been made yet.I think the chances of him getting the post are remote to say the least.I agree with your comments about the software and comment sections but until it is changed its all we have. Leaving the Forum is a victory to those you critisize but if it is your decision I wish you all the best and hope to see you at the Forum rally which Im sure will be attended by people with a genuine interest in this site...Brian (",)

Thanks for the feedback.

The forum software isn't perfect, but for the moment all we have. Plans are in the pipeline to update it.

One banned user was only allowed back on the forum after promising to change. There was overwhelming support for a reprieve from other forum users - see Our Website / R.I.P. II - where there were 13 posts in favour of a reprieve and only one against.

The post of assistant Moderator is still open. No decision has been reached.

Why should I delete your post? I have never deleted honest criticism of PCV, the forum or even myself.

Goderator.

To set the record straight with the Moderator of this forum I sent him this mail and repeat it here as a public gesture.

I was under the misapprehension that this particular user had become a moderator, which was pointed out in a reply. Hence the remarks about censure and the name 'Goderator', which was not aimed at you in any way.

Apologies that you thought that, it wasn't my intention. I mentioned that I am a moderator (on 3 LR forums) so I know what a job you have especially when you have to umpire such strong willed posters. You seem to have it all under control though, as you'll never please all the posters. Also in my experience it's normally only one person that stirs up all the rest. Rather than a sad and lonely troublemaker they seem to think themselves a 'Devil's Advocate'. Naive I think is the word.

Deano, I cannot for the life of me understand how yourself and a few others were under the impression that Kanga, who you are obviously referring to, had got the job of Assistant Moddy. In numerous posts it was stated that it was just a wind up. Even Kanga was winding people up. The Moddy posted TWICE if not more, that Kanga had not got the position and as yet it had not been filled, even adding that only two had applied. Im sure that the vast majority could see that it was only a little bit of fun. Now to my point, the only thing I can think of is the ones who threatened to walk out or HAD already left (because according to them Kanga was already in position) need to stop seeing red mist when his nic is mentioned and read the posts thoroughly. That is what surprised me Deano, you saying you are a moderator in other forums, yet you didnt show restraint or read the posts correctly.

I concur totally with his Lordship, I cannot believe anybody took the claims seriously, I think the chance of Kanga getting the position of assistant moderator correlates with the "snowball in hell" saying

Your Lordship & Graham,

I can only agree that in this case I did not read past that particular post - as I did indeed see the red mist descending - and for that I apologise. Unfortunately at a later date I then came across more of said poster's inane, biased and unproved ramblings and that was the cause of this topic: It's annoying enough to read that sort of material when it has nothing to do with you. Personally I can't abide false reporting in any shape or form.

I shall now bow out gracefully (if a litle sore around the wrists!).

Ann,

Yes indeed, political correctness will be the death of this country's very roots and foundations.

Many thanks to Phoney Tony and the Bully Brothers for their continued demolition work.

Mark, what I would like to see on an updated site is realtime chat, smilies/emoticons, a moderator with more powers to gag bad offensive language/ or personal attacks but that wont happen because of the cost and it would need policing for at least 16 hours a day. Probably the best we will get is a newly wallpapered room :O)

Now my real wish list for the site is , a cyberbar with dancing girls, and overnight accommodation and an Excuse Book full of excuses my missus would believe when I dont arrive home from Cyberland :O)

I cannot understand some of the so called problems with this site. Whenever a question is asked sensible replies are given. The not so sensible are also given but so what? All you have to do is ignore them if you want to. Some of the questions asked dont interest me for various reasons so I just scroll through and ignore anything that I dont want to read. Why do some get wound up by it all?

There's no firm date set for the updated forum - budgets etc. So don't hold your breath. Unlikely to the this year!

Emmm.

How many more users of this forum must be alienated because of what they drive? According to certain members of this forum. 4x4 owner = terrorist

dog owner = antisocial idiot

Whats next?

hobby owner = Gypsy?

Mazda owner = Hairdresser?

forum poster = looser with no life?

BMW owner = someone trying to compensate for other "problems"

NONE OF THESE ARE TRUE!! So why take any notice of them?

Personal request to members who do this!!! Please don't! caravans are already not that popular with other groups without own own group having a go at each other. If someone asks a question that gets you wound up, go have a drink and read something else. If you don't have a answer that will help or a witty remark to post then don't. I am as guilty as anyone else and I have posted some flames towards Kanga, but at the end of the day, he is still a caravaner. OK one who will probably never get towed when stuck on a rally field, but still a caravaner all the same.

Time to move on all, I hope to meet many of you at the rally. And I promise not to hose the grass under his car! honest

Steve

The trouble is Mervyn, from what I've seen, some of these not-so-sensible replies are posted just to take the mickey or ridicule the poster, and that puts people off posting serious questions.
