Well I spoke too soon, On the latest MOT, I got an advisory for a track rod end, same one I changed 20k miles ago. Went for a more expensive, one £45 this time. Tracking was way out , after replacing, and don't have tracking gear. so a visit to Kwik fit for tracking £75 .

Switches for audio control on steering wheel were intermittent. So changed the Clock spring £23. Auto transmission m fluid change £220 And just changed the engine oil , fully synthetic. £ 75. Recon the old girl is ready, for another 20 k miles.

Was the £220 for the auto fluids only or was labour and filters involved?
My Touareg is due next service. Can I expect a similar cost? Well done 'going atound the clock' as we used to say

As well as the gearbox fluid, it's a good idea to change the transmission filter, differential oil (x2) and transfer box fluid - I had all mine done earlier this year, plus engine coolant and an aircon service at my local trusted indy, cost was £1034 using all VW fluids and the indy labour - expensive but should be good for another 80,000 miles.

VW UK don't specify a transmission fluid change interval for Touareg's conventional torque converter automatic * but international forums will suggest anything from 60,000 to 160,000 miles so make your own decision.

* all the other VWs use a DSG (some wet, some dry) with a fluid change interval of 40,000 miles for the wet ones.

Just for fluid and labour, the "filter" is just a screen built into the transmission pan. Hyundai do not mention about changing Auto transmission fluid, that was my own decision.

Mine is due for the transmissions oil changes as you describe. Will done by my Indy after Christmas.

Did you supply the oils or rely on your Indy to supply?plus filters etc.

The auto box fluids don’t seem overly expensive.
A straight change allegedly needs 7/8 litres whilst a dry fill upwards of 12 litres.
ZF Lifeguard 8 Fluid 8 Speed 8HP ATF Automatic Transmission Oil 20 Litre 20L is £125. But I need to double check the official VW spec.

I wonder if the auto oil change is like the Volvos where you have to flush out and drain with new oil , discard , and then add new fresh?

I got my local indy to source the fluids and parts from the local VW dealer, hence the higher cost - the following prices all need VAT adding

ATF - £304 - 6 litres
Transmission Filter Kit - £60
Differential Oil - £73 - 2 litres
Transfer Box Oil - £32 - 1 litre
Coolant/Antifreeze - £18 - 4 litres
Aircon Service - £50
Labour - £325 - 5 hours

They don't flush, discard and refill - just drain it, remove sump pan to fit new filter, refill, run up to specific fluid temperature and top-up to level.

If you can cross-reference the specification you'd probably get a better price on the ATF from a Toyota dealer as the gearbox is an Aisin, which is part of Toyota.
