I've had both the 3.1 and the 2.7 variants and they are excellent towcars, they'll lug a heavy twin-axle up hill and down dale all day. The engines are Merc as is the auto box, fuel consumption solo is as you would expect with a full-blown auto 4 x 4, and around 20mpg with a heavy twin-axle on the back.
We had 5 Jeeps so obviously we were pretty happy with them, all brand new or low mileage ex-demos, but they all required significant work over the roughly 60000 miles we had each of them, fortunately always covered by warranty. This I have to say, is in stark contrast to the humble Sorento, currently on our second, with which simply nothing goes wrong!!
