Acording to the owners manual the maximum tow weight for the current Grand Cherokees (V6 CRD, 4.7 & 5.7 Hemi) is 3500kg. With the torque available I am sure they could manage it.

Will see what I can find on the earlier models. If you are looking at a 4.0 petrol check the fuel consumption as may be thirsty. Also make sure the car has a full service history and has been serviced WITHIN the stipulated service intervals, . should imagine that both the 2.5 and 4.0 litre are well capable of towing most if not all caravans on the market. Not quite sure what the power is on the 2.5 though. Again have a good long test drive in one. We were set on buying a 2.5 Range Rover earlier this year but got a big shock at how underpowered it was. I know it is a completely different engine but 2,5 diesel is not a very large lump for the size of the car. If possible try and have a look at the 3.1 diesel which replaced the 2.5.

Hi Jo-anne, I have an R reg GC 4litre for towing. 3300kg max, 140kg noseweight, 190hp. Fuel consumption is not good at an average of 15 mpg, but mine runs on LPG. I tow a 23ft Hobby weighing 1900kgs and the Jeep rarely comes out of overdrive at anything above 45mph. I couldn't praise it highly enough as a towcar, but everyone's different. My view is the diesels are as rough as a badger's a**e and fuel economy isn't much better than the petrol. One piece of advice though, use only Jeep specified differential oil or be prepared to pay dearly. Best of luck.

Hi J0-anne

I drive a 3.0 V6 CRD Grand Cherokee and boy what a tow car, fuel consumption, 27 - 29 solo 22 towing makes a great all round vehicle and has all the extras I need. The Range Rovers we looked at were all diesels from the main dealers but the 2.5 was so underpowered even solo it was slow. Dont know whay your budget is, but since the new GC came out , there are plenty of bargains in the 2.7 and 3.1 diesels.
