Hi all, I've just received a reminder to renew my RAC membership next month. I have also had an email from the Caravan Club with referance to Green Flag. Their prices do seem better but my question is does anyone use Green Flag and are they OK.

John

We are the same as Richard, we have used green flag ever since we have had a caravan which is about 10 years, used them a few times, never had a problem.

Prices are reasonable too even for the whole family

Hi, its a different John here, and I am in exactly the same situation. Am also seriously thinking about packing in the RAC and using the Green Flag through the CC. Looks much cheaper.

HI JOHN, you havent mentioned the length of your caravan, you will find if your van is over a certain length,it would not have been covered by the RAC. you may need MAYDAY which is run by THE GREEN FLAG for any length of caravan.make sure who ever you go with check make sure the van isnt to long.i got caught out fortunately i never had a problem. im with MAYDAY through the caravan club.all the best ALAN P/T

I have nothing but praise for Green Flag.

The AA with whom we were with cancelled our membership after the 5th tow in .

Green Flag on the other hand towed us in (same car, nightmare)another 27 times before we had had enough and crushed the car.

Don't forget that with Green Flag through the CC you get double jouney cover. If you break down on the way to a site they will take you there and bring you back at the end of your stay.

We have been with Green flag (Mayday) for 20+ years. not used them much in that time, but had occasion to a fortnight ago. We were at a CL near Nottingham at half term and were in the process of returning grandaughter to her home got about 3 miles and at a set of traffic lights on the A52 the engine died 2 o'Clock. Pushed it out of the way, called Greenflag, within 5 minutes a Greenflag van arrived, did some basic checkss munder the bonnet, decided it was terminal. Called the office to get a recovery vehicle. whilst I explained our problem. ie. we were 60 miles from home our caravan was 3 or 4 miles away. We needed to get the van home car to garage and granddaughter home!! Decided for the Greenflag van to take wife and granddaughter back to Cl to pack van ready to take home. Had the option to take the car back to the van and call them next morning to take us home.Decided to take car and van home and to garage that day. Was not 15 minutes before recovery vehicle arrived. loaded, back to Cl. Caravan hitched up, on our way driver dropped wife and grandaughter at nearest bus stop. Me the van and the car on our way. Dropped the van off at home, 25 mile to At he garage with the car, back home at 6 o'clock. Fish and chips then! Absolutely brilliant service, car returned following day (fuel pump replaced)Beat that for service!! Thanks Greenflag.

A friend of ours had heart problems in the south of France and was admitted to hospital. When he was well enough to be transferred to his local hospital he had an ambulance to Montpelier airport and another ambulance met him at Gatwick which brought him to Hereford hospital. There was also a doctor escorting him all the way from France.

Mayday then sent a person to the site in France to bring his car/caravan home. They never had to do a thing except get the driver back to Hereford rail station to catch a train home to Macclesfield where he lived.

I personally have used them twice with no complaints.

Well worth the money.

Hi John Just to be a bit precise, The Greenflag recovery service via the CC,Known as Mayday is a very different animal to the recovery service direct from green flag,The main difference's are recoverable caravan length's.Likewize The RAC via the C&CC (Arrival) as against the service offered direct from the RAC

Both clubs have arranged cover with their respective insurers specific to the needs of caravaners

Tony, Green Flag have recently done away with the 7 mtr. max. length, but otherwise you are correct, there are other advantages to being in it via the C.C. (Mayday).

Please REMEMBER if you ever have to use break down recovery with caravan tell them if you have a dry stabaliser when calling to report breakdown to ensure agent used has either a dry ball on board or brake cleaner to degrease ball to ensure stabaliser is not ruined, was recovered from Devon to Aberdeen with Greenflag agent absolutely excelant service.

LB..

I thought "mayday" breakdown cover was a UK cover, and not cover for Europe as well. Sure you are not on about red pendent?

Yes you're probably right on the name. I'm only covered for the UK with the CC but friends have cover for abroad. It's me in my dotage plus I couldn't be bothered to find the caravan folder with the insurance cover details because I was still half asleep :O)
