Hi
Last Sunday hitched up, got a green light on A frame to confirm hitched properly, drove 100yds luckily still on site and A frame comes off tow bar. Anybody else had similar experience. Was able to use jockey wheel to lift caravan but not a nice experience. Are there things I need to check. New to caravanning so any help welcome.

The green light is to confirm the ATC is working, NOT that the caravan is hitched properly - if you have an Alko stabiliser hitch, the indicators should show green to indicate hitched properly BUT you/we should always use the jockey wheel to lift the hitch to check that the car rises as well.

Hi Arnie, welcome to the forum.
It's not unknown for this false positive to happen but a simple procedure can prevent it ever happening to you again.
Every time that you hitch the caravan to the towball and the green indicator has popped up, wind your jockey wheel down again until the back of the towcar is being visibly raised by the jockey wheel.
This will prove that the hitch is properly locked before you finally raise the jockey wheel, engage the stabiliser and connect the electrics and breakaway cable.

The best bet is once you have hitched wind down the jockey wheel and make sure it lifts the car rear. If it does it is hitched correctly.

The OP seems to have been quite silent on this issue. Keeps everyone guessing as to what the problematic have been.

Eh,what green light are you referring to.The only green light I know of is to do with the Alko ATC system and nothing to do with hitching up correctly. Are you sure you know how to hitch a caravan correctly.
