I have re-read my recent postings and its offical I have turned in to a grumpy old man, using phrases like "in the good old days". See what this site does to you, I wonder what the BBC pay for Grumpy old men or do I need to get grumpier?

Paul A - I have been accused of being a Victor Meldrew from my reply many months ago regarding my reply to a posting asking for the angle setting for a satelite dish. All I asked was why do caravanners take all this unecessary extra weight with them when going away, especially satalite dishes. My wife and I go away to enjoy the new surroundings and landscape not to sit and watch boring TV. There I have once again got it off my chest and will now probably end up as Victor Meldrew mark 2.

Incidently to reminice is a sign of old age and not grumpyness.

Colin you don't know what you are missing. We would not consider going away unless we had our 30inch plasma TV, a couple of portables just in case, DVD, Video, selection of satellite dishes, couple of aerials strapped to the 'A' frame disappearing of up into the stratosphere, not to mention the game cube, play station 1-2-3-4 and 5 , free view, this view, that view the other view and sea view, digi box, wide band, broad band and brass band and don't forget some nice big speakers so you can entertain the vans around you. Yes it's good to get away from home of a weekend.

I thought I would stir a hornet's nest again. I have not said thet I do not take a TV with me on holidays - it is generally used first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening prior to turning in, probabley in total for 1 hour per day.

Now to the replies:

Martyn what size is your outfit to carry all that equipment and how much do you pay for electric hook up, or are you the noisey so and so with a generator running day and night?

Tina - who are you calling grumpy as there are three postings prior to yours? Should you be referring to me I would prefer to be called Dopey, Sneezey, Bashful, Sleepy or one of the others and not Grumpy.

Craig - I can understand where you are comming from with your comment on the relaxation after the children are in bed, however I would agree with the rest of the statement referring to cds, records, etc. and a good read - far more relaxing. One bir of advice from someone twice your age - do not put yourself down, there are people in this world and on this forum who will do that for you.

Its only a regular van although I did strip out the unnecessary items such as cooker, fridge, beds, kitchen units, seating etc to make space for the entertainment necessities. I have to rent an extra hook up to cope and yes I do run a generator not for electric but just to annoy people. :)

Hi Colin

Seriously now, we do not take a tele or any other form of electronic entertainment away with us. This means my children have to go out and play with other kids my wife will perhaps do a puzzle book or read and I am never without my Open University work. I am not knocking how others spend their leisure time but like you we like to take in our surroundings and escape the trappings of this electronic entertainment age
