I now believe beyond all doubt money is the only way to succeed in the Premiership. What an absolute disgrace that our national game is reduced to such avarice.
The Villa will never have a manager of Martin's calibre again.
Was I upset? Yes for a few minutes. Now I'm thinking who we will get next.
Graeme Souness? Yuk rolling eyes, frown thing and a big God help us.
Martin Jol? Maybe but another bruiser? Plays double handed poker.
Sven G Eriksonn? No thanks. Consistantly here today gone tomorrow.

Mark Hughes? Yes please . What a shame he signed for Fulham only a few weeks ago.

Alan Curbishley?? Fingers crossed smiley thing, He'll do nicely. Look what he did for Charlton.

Swmbo has renewed her season ticket so looks like the dog family will remain faithful Villans.

Welcome to the real world of football as experienced by the rest of us who have loyally supported teams which have tried to break into the premiership and harder still, to stay there!
Some months ago I remember Martin O'Neil assuring the interviewer on a local news programme that he intended to stay at the Villa and straight away the thought crossed my mind that he'd soon be on his bike.
Money is everything nowadays and the game has changed beyond all recognition from when I used to stand on the North Bank terraces watching the Doog and John Richards at the Molineux for a couple of shillings.
Although there was never any danger of moneybags Villa losing their premiership status they are in fact 'second division premiership' along with Wolves, Blues and Albion. The Chelseas, Man U's and now Man City's are in the stratosphere compared to the rest of us and greed has spoiled the game completely. None of the present day players or managers are 'fit to wear the shirt' because none of them give a stuff about it!
I no longer go to the Molineux, I can't afford the ticket prices these days and I last went two seasons ago. To be honest the acrobatic triple salco falls at the merest hint of a brush with the defending player, the spoiled brat outraged screams at the referee when he fails to award a 'cheats penalty' and the lack of anything remotely in common with any footballer even from lower divisions let alone the premiership has turned our national game into a money grabbing farce which bears no resemblance to the football that I grew up with.
Good luck to all midlands teams this coming season especially Wolves.

I actually share the sentiments written above,in numerous post. but [isnt there always ones of those in my post] Its not like this is something that happened overnight. "To Villa fans" you are only going through what we at leicester went through 7 or 8 seasons ago, and parksy how can you not mention "hibbit"? Note. dougie was one of ours too.
Anyway football started to change when they started showing it every bloody day, and the FA cup has never been the same since that started to become a compitition played between friday and wednesday. It also lost even more of its magic when Man utd where allowed to not compete one season for some mickey mouse cup for money.

Then we allowed every up start from overseas to buy out our clubs, regardless of where the money came from!

But there is hope. the german way still seems to be very competitive, and the german government does not allow over seas investors to hold more than 49% holdings, and of course the clubs have to be run at no loss. in otherwords the likes of the situation at Man utd could not exsist, and i suppose man city and liverpool and chelsea too would be hit.

But as has been already mentioned "greed" is now well established in football, but then it seems to be only a reflection of modern day life anyway.....

I was at Kenny Hibbit's testimonial way back when and Peter Knowles came back out of 'retirement' as a Jehova's Witness to take part.
The Doog was a one off! He slapped in a transfer request at Leicester............ On the morning of the FA Cup Final that Leicester were due to play in!

Look on the bright side, it is even worse up here. At least you lot were able to cry and complain about your team's performance at the world cup, we sat on the side lines yet again. Virtually all the main trams have been thrashed int he 1st rounds of the European competitions, even against very mediocre sides. Tells you something.

Recently Manchester United played a friendly with Dunfermiline as part of the pre season do's. Man U won 3-0, which would be reasonable except that the team they sent out were not even up to their 3rd team level, and they still thrashed a 1st Divison Club up here. Makes you weep, although as I am not a football fan I leave that to my kids.

As far as Mr O Neil is concerned, he has a track record of always moving on between 4 and 5 years in a job, so no real surprise there.

As Parksy has stated, money has corrupted any sport that exisited but as the fans are willing to keep paying, it will continue

How can anyone justify the money the players are paid. The worlds gone mad when a footballer can get paid in one week what the Prime Minister gets in one year. Is it any wonder the clubs are in debt? Please note, I said gets paid and not earns.

I suspect MON was partly to blame for the obscene pay culture at Villa Park. Four of his team who never played one match last season managed to pocket £250k between them a week! That's the kind of job I'd like. No wonder Randy Lerner decided it was time to pull in the reins.
FIL has been at most Villa saturday matches for the last 65 years . This is what supporting your local team was/ is all about. It was local and affordable. Those were the halcyon days.
A hot dog and chips bought on site is now £7.50.

Scotch Lad, Don't despair , us Englanders have to play Hungary tonight. Can't say I feel optimistic! You have the last laugh yet!

I tend to agree with LBs sentiments but lets not kid ourselves, its not just in Football is it?or for that matter in certain sports either.

I soppose the theory was proffessional sportsman had a short career and so needed to earn X5 or X10 what normal folks earned, and not the X1000 that the top lot earn.
At the end of the day and God knows how, there are enough folks out there paying over bloody good money and enough of it, that makes it possible for this situation to arise.....
