I have a Mark Hill Mini Travel Hairdryer which is 1000W and is plenty powerful enough and a nice compact size for the van (fits nicely in the bathroom cabinet). Comes in funky animal print designs too. I bought mine from Boots a couple of years ago so they may not do them anymore but you might find a supplier if you try googling as I think they still make them or something similar.

Just had another thought if the power is the issue then might be worth a look at hot air stylers rather than hairdryers as these tend to be in the 700w to 900w range. They will do the job as they are basically a low power hairdryer with a brush attachment - not so great for short hair though as the brush part tends to be be quite large.

Explain please. Why is the hair dryer to powerful for the EHU? You may have a limited supply - say 10A - but if it is a 'normal' supply it should be 16A. Most hair dryers IME are around 2KW which is less than 9A anyway so it should not trip the supply.

If you are not in the UK then EHU supply current is likely a different matter!

Wife uses a small 100 watt one, and as WC says its whatever else you hace running, get out of the shower, on goes the water heater, upto 8 amps, 1000 watt kettle, for a cuppa, another 4 amps,, on goes the hair drier, another 4 amps eggs on to boil, flick goes the circuit breaker,
Not last weekend though. Had a great 4 days away.

Is this something else for me to learn??
Why is the water heater off when you are in the shower?

Sorry, Gagakev, what I meant was the water is up to temp, wife or myself get into the shower, uses the hot water, then the heater switches back on to reheat the water so up goes the power usage.
Normally I am walking the dogs, and the breakfast is ready, tea on the table, toast ready, When I get back, SWMBO, is a lovely lass.
Good luck looking for a new van.

Sorry folks just seen that I put down that Wifey uses 100 WATTS, Should have been 1000 watts.
Hutch.

If your water heater is pulling 2KW (i.e. approx 8A) you have something wrong. My Trauma is rated 850W, that in my last van (same physical sized container) was 420W. If it were more that 850W plus the 120W of the fridge and a few dozen watts for the 12V supply you would never be able to use it on the continent where the supply is fused (and in many cases I mean ) commonly at 6A. (Yes, I know In Spain it is often 3A but they're odd like that!)

Woodentop, I agree, my combi boiler can be set to max of 8 amps or 4 amps with or without gas. Think heating and water heating. 3 kilowatt heater. When we are over to France, in the lowest power supplies of 4 amps supply. Run most items on gas. And we go to France in Winter and normally find 10 amp power.

The question wasn't about what hair driers can be used, I am an engineer, I can do the maths and the Long Haired Admiral's hair drier at home is definately too powerful. What I asked was what the ladies reccommend; I am as bald as a coot so have no interest or experience of such implemtns. Anyway I thank you for your replies.

.........I found that the best source of low wattage hair drier was to search vintage hair drier on that well known auction site. I have bought two such driers at 600watt each.
I have never found one of similar spec that is sold nowadays.
Both were brand new in original boxes but over 40 years old!
My wife uses one powered by an inverter when we don't have EHU. or it can be used with a low amperage supply.
She also has a 1250 watt version if the supply is adequate.

My wife goes around and turns most of the electric off .. Truma heating etc. and uses her domestic hair dryer from home , she has tripped the switch a couple of times in the past ,not anymore even on 10amp sites . I still have a good head of hair but let it dry naturaly after towel dry , and a little ruffle before brushing if that's any help ! :)

but mine does, and my daughters is even longer. She uses a towel too.
Seriously though, we take mega absorbent camping towels. They feel a bit like velvet, but have no pile to them, weigh practically nothing, and cost about a tenner on ebay!
