Hand brake

Another maybe crazy question but my drive is only slightly sloped but do you leave your hand brake on or off ( obviously I have wedges at back of the wheels) but will it sprain the cable being left on over a period ?

Always leave mine on, where we live the chocks have a habit of being blown out by the wind. Perhaps wouldnt hapopen if hadnbrake wasnt on and weight of caravan rolled back a touch, but belt and braces.

Mine is very rarely on , whilst in storage which is level it is off with steadies down , wheel clamp on, not going anywhere , the same as on my drive and the same as on-site when away unless it is on a slight slope the handbrake is on , other than that ; off !!

To be honest I think the rear steadies would prevent it entering the road if the wedges were dislodged

For me handbrake on, jockey wheel and corner steadies down even though my driveway is only a slight slope

Wheels chocked, steadies down, handbrake off. Drive is also sloped into the road, not really noticeable unless you look for it, but it is enough to get the van moving!

A couple of wooden logs for chocks (less likely to get filched than the fancier types 😉 ).

At home I am on a slight slope, plus as Batman said, if wheel lock is on then it is not going anywhere.

I would eave the handbrake on. We have never had a problem with the cable stretching so I doubt that is a problem.
If you are getting a very hard frost I have heard of the brakes sticking on so for that date you might be better releasing it.

My drive slopes and the van faces towards the slope. Steadies down, handbrake off, Alko wheel lock in place. No risk of handbrake sticking on through long term inactivity.

Hand brake off, van fixed to hitching post, wheel clamp on, mover off and some wooden chocks. Drive slopes slightly away for road, will not move anywhere.
