Hartal door lock problem

The forum in the May issue of the magazine referred to stiff operation of the Hartal door locks and whereas some correspondents seemed to have success at relieving the stiffness with oil etc on my van I found after much lubricating the only way was to dismantle the lock - quite easy four screws on the outside and one inside and a circlip. If you remove the inside operating Knob/lever you will probably find if you pull it half way out the stiffness disappears suggesting that the plastic shaft is tapered. I found that using a small wood chisel to allow vertical access inside the body of the knob/lever I was able to shave off a small amount of plastic from around the shaft at it's bottom end inside the body until the knob operated smoothly. Cleaned up and reassembled with a dab of silicone grease and everything is smooth and fine.
