NHS normally advise plenty of fluids, rest and if possible fresh fruit. A teaspoon or two of honey in your tea instead of sugar is helpful and also very nice. (y) :D

I put two teaspoons of honey with hot water and whisky in a glass as a tody, calmed the throat tickle a bit.

Will try again with rum.

OH believes in the medicinal properties of Whisky. Single Malt, of course, being far more medicinal than blended.

Fortunately I've not had it - I just have to put up with colds/coughs as all the proprietry tablets have something that goes against one or other of my medications, can't even take paracetamol, aspirin or ibruprofen - and caffeine and alcohol are out as well.

I thought I was safe with Paracetamol / Codeine mixes but I've recently been told to avoid them - I can use Morphine but only when it's terminal!

Me as well Chris.
Had it about 3 weeks now.
Most of the time its a tickly dry cough that also disturbs sleeping.
Wife brought me home a covid test yesterday to be on the safe side and it was negative.
Dry/tickly cough medicine seems to have little effect nor the various pastilles ive tried.

Got the same symptoms as many of you but as going on holiday to Scotland by coach in March thought my GPS could give me something. He rang me and said come and see me right away, Wow,. Gave me thorough going over, said could be a " aging" thing?, asked him why and he replied I had walked into surgery sprightly!!.. He gave me nothing apart from me giving him a week of BP results later.

β€œHe rang me and said come and see me right away". (For a cold)

Perhaps a postcode thing. At present I have severe vascular disease with arteries blocked 90% and a promised operation still 'under consideration". Also investigation into nerve damage. The hospital, after 6 years, are, in a word, useless. As are my legs now. I am now trying to get a GP appointment to see if I can get an out-of-county referral. After getting past the disbelieving receptionist I was given a telephone appointment in 1 month. To get this brought forward I tried an "e-consult". That told me to speak with someone today. I now have a GP appointment on Tuesday!

It really is a post code lottery. This week our granddaughter had a cold. Yesterday evening her mum was round with us having supper when granddaughter rang to say she was having difficulty getting her breath. So mum shot back home to see her. Bearing in mind this was 2000 hours. Two hours later a GP had seen her, prescribed and supplied an inhaler, antibiotics and steroids. Today she is much better and breathing so much more easily. I wasn’t aware of it but our health Center has a GP available 24 hours per day with drugs too. If this has not been the situation granddaughter would have been whisked in to Bath AE.

AFAIK all GP practices have 24 hour, 7 days/week access but most use a third-party deputising service.

I will have to move house.

Prior to covid I was very bad. The Quick response team attended to me and gave emergency infusions. It was them who called 999. They kept calling them back and telling them it is a code red. They came after 6 hours I was then kept in for 5 days with sepsis.

Gloucetershire are very poor.

To be fair. I have had good treatment in some departments and they sorted my sons kidney cancer with speed and proffesionalism.

OH has rheumatoid vasculitis and nerve damage which took the hospital several months to diagnose. OH has been in and out of hospital 3 times last year with each stay between 3 - 4 weeks. I think out hospital is even worse than yours however no issue with the nurses, just the so called specialists!

They even manage to create a condition that OH never had prior to going into hospital due to an unnecessary operation! It also turns out that the second operation OH had was also unnecessary as neither operation resolved the original issue.

Meant to add that on top of all this, I now have this infernal cold with runny nose, itchy throat by temperature normal. Almost like flu, but not flu.
