I had a Ford Zephyr like that at Uni. Never thought to tow anything with it, but its boot ate all our camping gear.

It was my first car in 1968. That straight six had lots of power although only 3 forward gears changed using column shift if anyone remembers column shift gear stick. LOL! I think I paid about £150 for it. At 2/6 a gallon who cared about mpg?

My Dad had a Zephyr, it towed our boat without any problem I was ever aware of, but it was before I was driving.

I had a 1974 Renault 16 which had a column change but at least it had a 5-speed box!

The car is definitely a Mark II Zodiac with the later facelifted 'Lowline' roof, built 1959 to 1961 but the Forward Control Land Rover on the trailer is a Series IIB built between 1966 and 1971 so the photo is not quite as old as it initially seems.

Yes the column shift suited the car and enabled three to sit in the front. My following car was a Humber Hawk and that also had column shift.

It was great for going to the drive in cinema as 3 in front and 4 in the back. In those days you paid per car and not per people in the car. LOL! Later I had a Ford V8 Customline and that was 4 in front and 5 or 6 in the back. The boot could probably hold another 4 bodies, but never tried it. 😂😂😂

I made mine pay towards its running costs by shuttling students between Cardiff and the Midlands when I visited Leicester, and at five passengers per trip there was some profit in it.
