having a hard time lighting my gas fridge

hi i just wanted to know if anyone could give me a bit of advice on running my fridge on gas,it works fine once u get it light but this sometimes can take me 30 min to get it lit( i know u have ot let the gas to run through a bit) or is it just me without the magic touch? any sugestions would be helpful

Our last van had to be spot on level to get the fridge to light eeasily on gas.

Light oven and gas rings first to pull the gas through before you

attempt to light the fridge.

Hi Alan,

Agree with PC, if you can light the gas hob - then you know you have gas at the manifold. Remember that the fridge has only a single burner jet - and will need about 10x as long to purge as the hob did - but 30 minutes is excessive.

Assuming that the fridge works OK on gas once lit, you probably need to investigate (by a competent person):

1. The igniter which should be placed 3mm from the jet body - it may have moved

2. The thermocouple / flame failure device - it may need replacing or the threaded joint behind the control knob may be loose

3. You may need to have the burner assembly serviced (and clean the heater tube at the same time) - it may just be sooted up in all the wrong places

4. You may want to read the operating instructions again and make sure you have the lighting process correct

Hi Folks,

Just out of interest, why does the caravan have to be perfectly level for the fridge to light? Is there a level sensor to shut off the gas?

A brief explanation might help me sleep at night... I must get out more!!!

Cheers!

When buying our first van the owner told me the van had to be level or the fridge gas would not light! Never queeried why, but used the fixed level in the vans front window as advised and alaways started the gas ok. The level has been moved from van to van as I,m to tight to spend

If it's an oldish fridge and the problem is it lights ok but does not stay lit when the knob is released, try this.

Set the control knob to the lighting position and then pull the knob off and use just the spindle to push in while lighting, if you then release it and it stays lit, it's the knob hitting the fasia causing the problem.

Quick and easy solution is to put something in the end of the knob to stop it going on to the spindle quite so far, 1 or 2mm should do it.

thanx for all your help and tips, i will put them to good use next weekend as we are off to pickering once again thank you for all your help
