Hawthorne Cottage, Coleford, Forest of Dean

Just returned from a three night stay at the above site. It's a small site (10 pitches) right on the edge of the Forest of Dean. All hard standing with optional EHU, adult only with toilets and a shower.
A lovely lady, Bev, runs the site and was regularly pottering round keeping the site tidy and was happy to stop and chat. She also lives on site and told us how best to contact her if we needed to. She is very knowledgeable on the local area and provides maps and directions for local forest walks. The location is fantastic, out of the site, turn right and within 20 yards you're on a path leading into the forrest. Some of the tracks in the forest were quite muddy, only to be expected given the weather we've had recently, but we still enjoyed a couple of nice walks.
If you're after peace and quiet with easy access to nature and wildlife this site is definitely worth a look.

Ideal information for us as we have recently booked a place not far from this site, although we no longer have caravan holidays, we enjoy staying in bungalows with our two elderly dogs, They enjoy walks and this sounds ideal for us muddy walks as well, thanks.

There are a couple of lodges right next to the caravan site that look very nice. I don't know anything about them other than what's on the web site. The path / track running next to the fence in the photos takes you into the Forrest.

If you're in the Forest of Dean this place is well worth a visit: https://www.forestofdean-sculpture.org.uk/ .

We were there yesterday.
The Sculpture Trail is well worth doing. There’s good parking at Speech House Wooldland or Woorgreens car parks on the Speech House Road. Both are adjacent to the trail and for those not wanting to do the full trail they are close to the lovely Cathedral Scuplture. Other benefit is those car parks are less frenetic than the large one at the start of the Sculpture Trail.
