We are travelling from Tursac in the Dordogne back to Boulogne. En route we would like to visit some friends near Confolens.(Between Angouleme & Poitiers) Having searched the forum most people travelling to the Dordogne go via Chartres & Limoges. As Confolens is to the west of this mortorway, we are considering travelling via Perigueux & Angouleme, then Poitiers, Tours,Le Mans & Rouens. Anyone done this route, or any part of it? Just want to know if it is easy or if we would be better doing the western motorway? We also could do with any recommendations of sites near Confolens,& Bernay please.

Wouls certainly appreciate any help-we go in 2 weeks. Thanks

The N10 between Angouleme and Poitiers is an excellent toll-free dual-carriageway. At Poitier Sud (junc 30) I always join the Autoroute then leave for the N10 at the first junction after Tours. The section of Autoroute bypasses several busy towns. The N10 from Tours up to Chartres, although not much is dual, it's a straight, fairly fast road.
