"Our insurance products are only available to members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club". Any reasons to join this club if I am not planning to do caravanning in the UK?
Your choice, but you still need to get to the port, you probably need breakdown cover for UK and Europe and maybe repatriation. Additionally you may need to cancel a booked trip. A lot of maybes which is why Red Pennant may be a good thing.

The simple answer is peace of mind. The two big clubs understand what is needed and their policies are the equal or better than the others and although we have never needed them their excellent reputation means we have never gone elsewhere. I have no experience of the rest, but some of their shortcomings or service lapses do crop up from time to time.

Very true as we need Red Pennant when we had a blow out in France.

In 2018 we had to cancel at short notice holiday in Germany and France. Red Pennant were brilliant and even offered to rebook us later in summer. Unfortunately we had to say “ no thank you”. So they looked after all cancellations etc and very quickly refunded us the policy cost, ferry fees etc but less a charge at one campsite as we were within the 7 day payment period.

It was all done without fuss and by helpful staff.

It’s when things go awry that you find out the difference between a good insurer and a not so good insurer.

In last weeks Times inn Saturday I read that 25% of travel insurance claims are not met for one reason or another. The cost of Club membership must be insignificant compared to a long 9 month extended tour of Europe.

I think the OP was asking about Health Insurance not breakdown or recovery - unless those include Health Insurance of course.

Red Pennant would come into action if the unit needs to be repatriated due to illness etc. Also they can help with interpretation etc.

Red Pennant gives different options for cover and you can opt for just Personal Cover. We have use it if not using van or car.

This is a post where knowing the OP's location is critical to the validity of the answers.

Most insurance can only be arranged from your home country of residence, and unless you do live in the UK, you will probably be unable to access any of the policies already mentioned.

When I was trave Europe without the van I used Red Pennant personal cover, as it was least restrictive for our age and health issues, over 65, and things like COPD and Blood pressure etc.

The OP only mentioned health insurance but also that they will be away for 9 months plus. So there might be implications regarding the length of time out of the country.

Age and previous health issues need consideration. I suggest they give Staysure and other specialist insurers a call.

But if breakdown insurance is needed then I, like others, agree that Red Pennant are excellent. I know from experience. But I feel there are maximum time limits on those policies.

Our annual travel insurance had a 90 day limit fir stays outside UK but there must be some that have longer durations to cover those on world trips etc.

Don’t forget must household policies exclude your domestic covers if you are away and the home is unoccupied for more than six or so weeks. Covers vary so do check

Thank you all for all your replies.

I have contacted Red Pennant, and they do not offer the separate health insurance package: they only offer full package (car+caravan+health) which is not very convenient I guess

That’s different to the CMHC link that I provided where you could get just Personal Cover. We have used that on holidays when travelling without the caravan. Is it because you are a non member of the club?

I have just checked on the CMHC site and the personal cover is there. Single trip is a max of 185 days.
