I checked online using Google, quite a read from a company that services the pumps,as Buckman stated the their life of 20 years is probably correct, but as such doesn't allow for maintenance/servicing costs.

Wonder how they compare to the servicing and maintenance costs of a condensing gas boiler.

IMO a significant obstacle that because of not being address correctly in some installations thus the poor outcome generating the concerns joe public hold, is the installation practicalities in our homes.

By this I mean:-
  • Our homes in many cases are poorly insulated, which can't practically be addressed. eg External wall cladding now seen as not problem free.
  • The low temperature they output means a big change in the size and probably type of "radiators" etc. Not only does this present challenges finding the "real estate" for the instals, it drives up the price for them their installation and the upheaval hassle to achieve this.
  • Even though I have space all round my property, that is not the case with so many houses, flats etc built throughout the 20th century. Finding space where we will not have to look at it, and meet the spacing requirements to neighbouring properties, is a challenge; I suspect for many not actually achievable unless wall hung. Even doing that it brings in possible noise transmission issues. Presently homes with gas heating, there is clearly the space for the "boiler", and the size "radiators" needed. This in itself is a decentive to having to find a new more demanding install solution.
In our case well through our eighties, should our 1979 instal finally give up, are we seriously going to do other than something offering the least turmoil, time contractors are here etc? No we will "make do and mend" if possible, the very least hassle, any value issues it inflicts on the property will only reflect in the period we can (no that should be "have to") self fund a care home!

Oh dear! It seems that some members can't accept others opinions without having to resort to personal replies.

Let me once again draw your attention to the first line of the Guidelines before I lock this thread.

Do not harass, attack, or demean other forum users, including official staff. Disagreement is welcome, but different points of view can coexist without anyone resorting to personal attacks.

Let me also say that having a different opinion or giving advice is not dependent on having first hand experience of the issue. True experience in a particular field counts for a lot but is not essential to expressing an opinion.

When did you last go to the Doctor who diagnosed you with Eddies Disease and asked him if he'd never had it how did he know?

I'm equally sure that at sometime or other we've given advice to others on a subject we've had no first hand knowldge of. Seems to me some people don't recommend particular brands of caravan based on hearsay and have never owned one.

Thread locked.
