But surely claiming child benefit when, quite clearly.you dont need it,is also fraudulent. The quote;"let him without sin cast the first stone".It seems all too easy to condemn other people and not look to you own house first.

It's not illegal to claim child benefit if eligible and it is not means tested.

Perhaps those who 'don't need it' could donate it to charity thus helping those who might.

Little kids without clean water which a few quid a month would sort out would be a good starting point

Lady C I cannot see how claiming something like child benefit, which you are legally entitled to, to be classed as fraudulent'.

I apologise for the dictionary quote, it's catching off Gumbo, but 'fraudulent' is "Deceitful; fraudful; guileful; crafty; wily; cunning; subtle; deceiving; cheating; deceptive; insidious; treacherous; dishonest".

Maybe if one is loaded it is morally wrong but it is no more wrong than people who have emigrated to Spain being paid

I did not say it was illegal.just faudulent to claim if you dont need it.Child benefit is still a government benfit just as all the rest are.I am aware of quite a few people near to my abode that spend/save their child benefit on multi jaunts away in their caravan throughout the year. This equates surely,to spending benefit money on "ciggarettes and alcohol"and are as much guilty as those they seek to accuse.

" As Gumbo said in a past post, why shouldn't they have it, they've paid into the system."

Yes indeed because it is a Universal benefit that is not means tested. No one is cheating the system to get it, not like the relatives of some posters in this thread. It is like the Old Age Pension again a Universal benefit that is not means tested, and is paid in Spain or France etc. That is my quote in cotext.

"fraudulent" as Lady C said in the Social context it is almost fraudlent to collect this allowance, but don't forget they took away the married mans Tax Relief to pay for it remember ??

There's more holes in this thread than a sieve. The hypocracy from a number of quarters is most disappointing.

Surely in a half decent society we are all bound by the same rules. If the cheat wasn't a SIL or BIL, would you report them??

Please , the one thing I could never stand at work or in life are double standards.

Hi,

My boss announced that he was wearing his "management hat". I asked him if he had two faces to go under his two hats? He wasn't amused.

Way back when Child Benefit was something like ten shillings, starting with the second child, I noticed that the tax man credited me with something like twice that amount. I'm not sure how it worked, but the effect was that if you earned enough to pay income tax, most of the child benefit was clawed back as income tax.

As for shopping people, is your first loyalty to your family, or to the population in general? If my wife thought I was breaking the law, I wouldn't expect her to phone the police and report me. Mind you, life would be difficult for a spell.

I supose ants are the prime example of commuity living. But try tormenting one, see how many of his mates come to help him.

If Rose West , Myra Hindley and others had been more sensible?????

There is a "crime" called "perverting the course of justice". Granted we have a fine line here but if caught it is possible the "wife " could also be prosecuted and so on.

I see the dilema here.

MESSAGE FOR PEOPLE CLAIMING BENEFITS - Watch out, watch out, there's people watching your every move. Some are judge and jury whether you are entitled to claim or not, based on what they see.

Some will report you, some won't.

Nothing changes

There has been a growing tendency for posts which contain political posturing with the same old arguments being trotted out by much the same participants adopting the same opposing viewpoints to appear on the Practical CARAVAN forum recently.

There are many websites which allow and indeed encourage these debates and discussions.

Unfortunately this isn't one of them. Let's stick to what we know best please

I said earlier

"Maybe their disability isn't as obvious as say a wooden leg?

If they are cheating I'm sure someone will blow the whistle. I hope so.

What we see isn't always how it is"

The cow in the field may look black, but when you walk around it you see the white spots.

Don't worry about being watched on this forum. The search engine can't even tell you what happened yesterday!

LOL

Consider this:

A factory, feeling it was time for a shake-up,

hired a new CEO and he was determined to rid the company of

all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the new CEO noticed a guy

leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he

wanted to let them know that he meant business. He walked up

to the guy at the wall and asked, 'How much money do you

make a week?'

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and

replied, 'I make about $400 a week. Why'

The CEO then handed the guy $1,600 in cash and

screamed, 'Here's four weeks' pay, now GET OUT

and don't come back!' The guy left

without saying a word to the CEO.

Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around

the room and asked, 'Does anyone want to tell me what

that goof-ball did here? '

From across the room came a voice,

'Pizza delivery guy from Domino's.'
