Hi Does anyone ever leave the heating on in the van all night using gas. Our heating seems to be more efficient when running off gas but I am nervous about leaving it on all night. Any advice welcome. Denise
 
Hi Denise, it should be perfectly safe to leave your gas heating on all night. Providing the fire has no fault, exhaust fumes won't be entering the caravan and it won't be eating up all the oxygen. We leave our oiled fired raditor on if it's really cold which has a theromostatic control, thats of course you are using a hook up, otherwise like Lisa says.

I concur with Lol on this point. Modern caravans have to be fitted with a type of heater that is called 'room sealed'.

These are effectively a tube which takes in air from under the caravan, mixes it with gas burns it and the exhaust goes out through the roof. The clever bit is around the flame which is formed into a heat exchanger. This extracts over 70% of the heat from the flame and transfers it to the living area without the fumes.

You only get hot air inside the caravan from the heater.

Condensation is created by us humans and pets breathing, and any open flames you may have such as a cooker, so some ventilation is still needed, though caravans are designed with permanently open ventilators. The use of the windows is optional.

As you are tucked up at night you should find the electric part of the heater is sufficient to keep you warm. We switch to electric at night and only use the gas during the day.

Vanners who do not use hook ups have no alternative but to use gas. and if the heating and HWS is correctly used, serviced and maintained and all air inlets are not blocked then little or no trouble should be experienced. I find that the only time it is really needed is just before getting up on a morning and for the rest of the day the stat does its job. IMHO
