Heiki Rooflight

I have a 2002 Lunar Freeland EB with one of those big Heiki rooflights at the front. When I opened it on the last outing I noticed that it had cracked around the rear stay and was coming apart, and so I closed it promptly.

Talking to the dealer, he says it will cost several hundred quid to replace the whole unit. Can't I just get a replacement rooflight without the frame? Alternatively, has anyone attempted a repair (glue, expoy or othewise)?

It seems mine is quite an old version as I have two black handles with the push-button locks, not the big one-handled version

Dealers are rip off stay away. Try E. bay or caravan Scrap yards you should be able to pick up a replacement rooflight with or without the frame. On E bay you can email some of the scrap-yards and if thay have the part thay will send it to you. I have purchased many a spare part in this way. Hope this helps Steve.

Yes Peter, you can get just the dome, most decent caravan outlets will either have one in stock or order one for you, not cheap though.

Peter - is it actually a Heiki? - or is it a RemiTop which does have two black handles with push buttons.

The 2001-2 RemiTops were very prone to cracking around the rear stays and a very large number were replaced under warranty with a heavier duty clear acrylic dome - which therefore are available seperately.

Remis are tilt and slide and it's the front hinge mountings that crack, Heki it would appear did use similar handles to Remis though as their for sale on ebay?

I had cracks on a Remis I bought second hand, this I found was due to the elbow joint of the front hinges being stiff, this caused a large jolt to the rooflight each time it was opened or shut. A liberal dose of silicone maintanance spray cured the stiff hinges, a local plastic fabrication firm then supplied an off cut of polycarbonate clear plastic which is near unbreakable and some special watery super glue to bond it on with.

Result is hardly visible, 10 times stronger and I had to force money on him for payment!!

Gary - the RemiTop also crack at the rear fittings - mine did and the clear dome was replaced under warranty with a much heavier duty part.

Beg your pardon Roger, as I said mine came complete with cracks albeit I'm not sure of it's age but it's not as old as 2002?

Truth is, it was a swap for some bits of his I'd repaired and I got yet another broken bit from him in return....do you think somethings not quite right there?!

Anyway main point is, these lids are repairable for pennies using modern adhesives and a little simple advice
