Hi All. Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Barry, I am from Yorkshire, I have a 21 year old Son, a 4 month old Grandson and, oh, I had better not forget the wife, Christine.I have stayed in a Caravan before but never owned one or even towed one. We have just purchased ouir first Caravan, it's a 1998 Lunar Solar, so it's not very new but is in very good condition and will suit our needs over the next year or two, if things go well we will look to upgrade. As for the Towcar, we currently have a Renault Scenic but I am looking to renew my car so I will be reviewing all the towcar reports. My first task will be to take a towing course, when I can find one relatively close to Barnsley. As well as that I will probably pestering you good folk with lots of tedious questions over the next few weeks and months.

Hi Barry welcome to Caravanning and to the forum. Ask all the questions you like. If you have never towed before you may find one of the towing courses run by either the Caravan club or the Camping and Caravanning Club helpful. Covers all the basics and reversing, manouvering etc.
Happy vanning

Hi Barry and welcome. Congratulations on your very sensible approach to caravanning buy buying an older model first. So many people dive in with both feet by buying new then discovering that the hobby is not for them, thereby incurring a huge loss when they sell up. As you say, if you do decide that the lifestyle suits you, then upgrade later.
Very wise too in booking on a towing course. There's no shame in admitting that you have to learn, but a great deal of shame in facing your pride and joy upside down on a hard shoulder somewhere!
Never be afraid to ask anything. After all, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.
Learn how to do it, make all the mistakes that we veterans did, learn from them and most of all enjoy!
Good luck.

Hi Barry + family big welcome to the forum, just dont be shy in asking no matter how trivial you may think it is.
Have you booked any where yet?

Welcome to the Forum Barry and Christine. Like other member have said you will get good advice and ideas from using the Forum. I think your intention to get proper help and instruction is very much the sensible thing to do. Experience gives you a lot but starting off with getting the basics right is priceless.
Enjoy the hobby I'm sure you will have many enjoyable holidays and mini breaks.
best wishes Brian

No we havent booked anywhere yet but I have certainly be doing some research. I plan on going somewhere reasonably close for the first trip, maybe North Yorkshire or Humberside.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, very much appreciated.
