The Heard and Macdonalds islands face a 10% tariff. They are Antarctic and inhabited by penguins. Wonder what they export apart from rancid odours.
Pump prices/litre never seem to reduce when the world price/barrel drops - but pump prices always go up when the barrel price goes up!Some possible positive news WTI oil price for May delivery has slipped below $60 dollars a barrel. Brent will parallel WTI so should see a reduction in pump prices although the Exchequer may not see it as good news.
Pump prices do reduce as oil price drops but at a far slower rate than they go up when oil prices rise. I find that quite a strange outcome, but I guess the retailers don’t 😢Pump prices/litre never seem to reduce when the world price/barrel drops - but pump prices always go up when the barrel price goes up!
You may be on your own on that one.I think the tariffs introduced are a brilliant strategy. Now countries will now what it is like to have "sanctions" placed on them. You have my blessing Mr Trump!![]()
It is the best thing since bubble gum! Imports become expensive and it becomes cheaper to start manufacturing the goods creating employment and when to create employment you create wealth and the standard of living imroves in that country. You may be on your own on that one.
How will tariffs help "countries" know what it's like to have sanctions placed on them? The tariffs will impact the US costs, not "countries" costs. This may well have a knock on effect on exports, but does not change the cost of manufacturing locally.I think the tariffs introduced are a brilliant strategy. Now countries will now what it is like to have "sanctions" placed on them. You have my blessing Mr Trump!![]()
Sanctions on South Africa were a UN resolution and 25 countries including the UK and United States enacted national legislation to introduce the UN resolution. A totally different situation to tariffs imposed unilaterally by one country on every country in the world, including uninhabited islands. It is the best thing since bubble gum! Imports become expensive and it becomes cheaper to start manufacturing the goods creating employment and when to create employment you create wealth and the standard of living imroves in that country.
Don't forget that the British govt imposed sanctions on us including an oil embargo. Initially the economy suffered until the manufacturing industry got on its feet and employment was created. Standard of living improved overall and our currency was stronger than the British pound. Been there and got the T shirt.
....... and then relocated to one of the countries that imposed sanctions on you! Did you bring the T shirt with you (or just the chip).Don't forget that the British govt imposed sanctions on us including an oil embargo. Initially the economy suffered until the manufacturing industry got on its feet and employment was created. Standard of living improved overall and our currency was stronger than the British pound. All that seems so obvious to most people.I can't see US workers making all the previous items they imported, settling for wages like those suppliers had, thus the production costs to US buyers is almost certainly going to increase. The more so whilst at the same time the US is deporting or otherwise driving the "ultra low cost" labour force out of the US, like back home.
There is also challenges with the very work force available for assembling delicate items, has the US the available operatives with the dexterity typically found in the far East?
Then there is the temptation for US car etc builders, with the competition driven away or severely hobbled, from upping their selling prices. I just feel US car and product makers without having to compete, will exploit that lack of competition. Many IMO will price at the very upper limit of "what the market can bear".
Though not it seems the bulk of the US Presidential voters. All that seems so obvious to most people.
Just 49.8% of the popular voteThough not it seems the bulk of the US Presidential voters.
But they are en route to finding out.Though not it seems the bulk of the US Presidential voters.
I don't doubt any failure will be credited to something other than the real cause(s).But they are en route to finding out.
