hello folks i got a quetion

Hello

we bought our first caravan last year and thourghly enjoying it.

Its a 2 birth abbey expression being towed by a nissan x-trail.

We have had the van serviced this year for peace of mind but find that when the hand brake is applied the van will roll backwards down a slope. I recalled the chap who done the service and he explained that this is correct operation. your views on this would be appreciated.

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum

I don't know what qualifications (if any) the person who serviced your caravan claims to have but if the caravan rolls backwards down a slope when the handbrake is applied this is most definitely NOT the correct operation and I advise you to have the caravan brake and the overrun mechanism checked immediately before you have an accident.

Hi Robert

Does this problem happen immediately after you have reversed the caravan? If so then this can happen . Usually it is advisable to pull the caravan forward a few feet to disengage the automatic reverse mechanism. In practice it may that the handbrake requires a very long pull to fuly engage. If you still have a problem do as Parksy says.

Cheers
