hello from Wales

Hello, new members here, from Wales.

We have decided that we would like to give caravaning a go, so thought we would join this site for a few tips.

Our main problem is that we have a Renault Kangoo!

Nice car, and the van based cars suits us...its like a extra room, great for the dogs.

Its a 1.6 petrol.

We thought it would pull a caravan, but it seems not so!

I think it would be ok with a puck or teardrop, but thats about it...........unless someone here could point us in right direction?

Christine

Hello Christine and welcome to the forum.

A good website to visit is Whattowcar.com Also, at the back of PC Magazine is an index with all caravans listed with their MTPLM.

As a general rule, new and inexperienced caravanners are advised not to exceed a maximum ratio of 85% and Whattowcar.com will work this out for you, for whatever car/caravan combination you feed into it.

We had a similar dilemma when we decided to buy our first caravan. We had a 1.6 Vauxhall Zafira which looks like it ought to be quite a capable towcar - wrong! We would have had to buy an oldish, basic caravan which proved very difficult as we needed a 5 berth (lots more choice for 4 berths). In the end we changed the car (another Zafira but 1.9 150bhp diesel this time) having found a suitable weight caravan first.

There's a good towing match service on the towsure website

Hi, we're in Wales also and had a 1.6 Golf to start with. It was fine for our first van, a 2 berth Elldis Whirlwind. Don't be put off by first impressions and do the research using the tools suggested earlier. The Kangoo will be fine for smaller (older) 2 berth models, more recent ones have got heavier.

Someone in the Midland Centre, CC, has a similar and they are out all year with what i think is a Freedom caravan. From a dealers in Stafford. Possibly made in Poland. they rally with it so it must be self contained. I suspect there are just 2 and a greyhound.
