Hello everyone, I thought to introduce myself after posting a question in another section about what 5/6 birth caravan to buy!

My husband and I, and 2 young children are new to this.

WE did have a 3 week holiday in California last year and travelled around in an RV motorhome. This was so fun that it's given us a taste of travel freedom and we now want to get a caravan. After the RV a caravan will seem small, but better for our small roads!

We hope to drive up to Scotland in the summer and perhaps to somewhere in Europe. Just have to get the right caravan first!

hi sarah, big welcome to the forum, enjoy.

i have recently bought an abbey aventura 5 berth through a private deal. this is our first caravan sarah, and we bought this one because it gives us the double dinette which really suits the young one, during the day this will be her play area and her own wee dining table for her and her friends, then at night time it converts into a double bed in a matter of minutes, with a sliding door for peace and quiet. this suits our needs and we researched all other layouts before deciding. happy hunting, and also, ye will enjoy scotland.

cheers.

Hi Sarah, how are you doing with your search for a caravan. This is the place to get all your questions answered with the exception of MYSELF.Lovely to have you with us.

You will know the caravan for you when you find it. I used t"internet for research before we bought our last van.Caravanfinder is good place to start and of course there are some for sale on here too. Have fun looking and oh I envy you your first trip it is so exciting even a bit daunting but like all things its easy when you know how. That comes with time and answers on here.

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the heady world of caravanning!

We love it, my husband and I have 10 and 6 year old daughters and own a fairly aged but pristine 1993 Elddis Cyclone XL, 5 berth caravan who we affectionately call 'Sally'!

We've had her for 3 years now and she does everything we've always wanted, the best bit for us is that the double end dinette converts into a double bed that's plenty big enough for even 2 adults, and a bunk across the top, and the hard folding concertina door blocks an unbelievable amount of noise out.

We bought a Bradcot Active awning second hand last year in size 925 but find that with the sloping front end it's a little slack. But it's nothing that bothers us as when we're on site for more than a couple of days, we put a universal annexe up to take the food table, wardrobe etc which doesn't take living space away from the awning.

I personally am a bit anoraky about keeping her clean inside, especially when it's a muddy, wet site, but we keep a cheap little Tesco vacuum in the wardrobe as it doesn't weigh much, and plug it in whenever things get too mucky, a pop-up laundry hamper at the door to dump shoes in and loads of cheap little Ikea doormats to wipe muddy feet on is also a good idea if you go out as much as we do (which is nearly ever weekend in Spring/Summer/Autumn as we have a gorgeous little site just 15 minutes from our home that's really cheap)It's probably the reason why, at the age of 17 years old, she's still immaculate inside and out! (She gets a foam bath, wax and shower whenever she comes out to play!)

I just read that back and realised just HOW much of an anorak I sound!! I can hear the groans now "What a numpty THAT woman is!"

Seriously though, I hope you enjoy it as much as we do, it's SO great for the kids to get out in the fresh air, and they love it too...best of luck!

Elaine

Hi Sarah,

We are also "new" to caravanning well with two small children age 5 and 1. We used to have a tourer over 10 years ago but changed to a static, which we enjoyed but the costs were getting a bit steep and it was sited just 6 miles from home, so after another wet summer we decided to sell and buy another tourer. We bought a Bailey Pageant Provence 5 berth, it is 5 years old and I just love it although we have just had one outing in it at Halloween. But I know we are going to have good times in it and have just booked for Easter. The double dinette worked very well, and it has a L shaped lounge at the front which we both really like, it was my husband initially liked this layout, but I am really pleased we got it. He thought moving from a static it would seem more roomy and of course he is right(as always!!) I hope you get your caravan and really enjoy it. One piece of advice if you get an awning try putting it up before you go away or you will be the entertainment on the site first time. I have lost count of how many times I have given people this advice, must remember it ourselves this time round. Hope you enjoy the forum I think I am a bit addicted to it, my husband is just glad I am not on facebook all the time now. Some of the posts have me in stitches and you also glean lots of tips from it. Happy Caravanning.

Thanks for all the hello's! Think we are about to buy an Adria Altea 6 birth. Already daydreaming about where to take it! Already learnt from here about the Tesco vouchers on Euro Tunnel! So thinking to head somewhere at Easter. Would like some sun though!Or perhaps Euro Disney!
