We bought our first tourer about a month ago (we came over from the dark side of motorhoming) and bought a practically new Sterling Europa 550 in beautiful condition. We have just had it serviced and it passed without a hitch. The only thing that has to be done is the motor mover, sometime in the past it has had liquid spilled on the electronics box, so has to be sent away for repair. Not been out in it yet as we are still getting some gear together that wouldn't fit from our motorhome to the Sterling. Hoping to get lots of tips as a tourer is a different beast

Hi and welcome! Always lots of tips on here. Just out of interest what made you make the switch from motorhoming to a caravan?
After several trips away in the motorhome, especially to our much loved parts of France, the motorhome was becoming a bit of a handful and was starting to breakdown at every opportunity, and becoming unreliable, plus the fact that if we had to go anywhere, we had to pack everything up as it was our only transport, so it had to go, we decided on a fixed bed tourer and went to see plenty before stumbling across the one we purchased.

Hi cazzbah, welcome to the forum and to caravanning. We used to have a motorhome, and swapped to a caravan for all the reasons that you did. We have ever regretted it; and even though we have poked our heads in a few motor homes at the NEC show, wouldn't go back.

Hi Jallin. At the time we had 4 children, 3 of whom were teenagers, so two slept outside in pup tents. It was very snug in the motorhome. We tended to holiday by going to a park and staying for two weeks, not by touring from place to place. With this style of holiday, a caravan is much more sensible and spacious. Now that the children have nearly all left home and it is just two of us, we do still prefer to get somewhere and stay put. As we both still work, the van is on a seasonal pitch, so that the quick weekend getaway is easy. We can get there in 2 hours and everything is already set up. Not the cheapest option but much much cheaper than a motorhome! Perhaps when we both retire, if we decided to do a lot of touring of Europe staying in different sites for just a couple of nights at a time, then a motorhome would be the more sensible choice. In the meantime we are sticking with the caravan.
