We are new to caravanning, in fact that new we haven't started yet !!. We did caravan in the mid sixtes, but now have decided to purchase a new van and tow car. I am retired now at 58 my wife still works part time ( her choice ). So we thought now might be a good time to start to look at a lot of places in the UK that we have just passed through, rather than explored.

Also a couple of months on the Vendee etc sounds good to me.

I posted on a technical thread about what we are looking to buy, the vans are down to two possibilities a Bessacarr Cameo 645GL or a Senator Louisiana. My wife likes the idea of the fitted walk around bed, with the shower etc outwith the bedroom. We expect to take our grand daughter with us in a couple of years time so this layout suits us. We also only envisage using sites with showers/toilets etc.

We live in the North of Scotland (Aberdeenshire ) so I am looking at the possibility of storing the van down in England during the summer to save the long tows up and down the motorways. I think the cost of fuel and wear and tear on the tow car will almost equal the storage costs. We would store our van in Scotland during the winter so our grown up children could use it as a chalet for sking weekends. If anyone has either of the Vans we are looking at please let us know what you tow with and also any problems to look out for.

Frank and Val

Hi Frank, welcome to the forum.

Just to answer your question, we have a Bessacarr 625GL, purchased new this year, and we tow with a Discovery TD5. Our van is slightly heavier than the 645GL and the Disco has no problems with it at all.

Good luck with your purchase!
