Help needed Please!! re: Bilbao Ferry Terminal

Hi there

we are in N Spain and will be going to the ferry in Bilbao for the crossing to Portsmouth. Where exactly is the terminal, is it actually in Bilbao or in Santurzi as someone has told us which is a few kms away? We are planning to spend the night at the terminal and on a previous thread it was said that you walk from the terminal into Bilbao, Puzzled....

Head fo Bilbao and then follow the signs, they are massive and you can't miss it, we passed it on the way to Santander 2 weeks ago, happy sailing, hope its not too rough a crossing!!

We sailed from Bilbao last Saturday (2nd May) and yes, the terminal is at Santurzi, NW of Bilbao. I would not have thought that a stroll into the centre would be particularly practical as you need to find a way on foot out of the dock area then walk along the south bank of the river to the nearest bridge.

We spent our final night at Burgos (110 miles south) - no idea if one can stay on the dockside overnight (or how safe it is).

Further to my post about Bilbao terminal, we did stay overnight and there is no problem whatsoever in doing that. In fact we had quite a nice gathering of like minded people going home.

There are toilet facilities and its no problem walking across the footbridge into the town, although the town is nothing to write home about.

That's good to know - thanks for reporting back on this topic. We'll certainly bear it in mind should we use that route again.
