Hello all

A couple of weeks ago some one rear ended me.... Their fault ... Their insurance company has just rung me directly no problem with that..
The bumper is damaged at looking at it it doesn't look to bad. But I took it to a couple of garages one said just a repair and another said a new bumper..
Now hubby had a look at it and the bumper is plastic and there is a split which hubby says can't be repaired and there is a ripple on the wheel arch where the bumper was pushed forward and the packing behind where the damage to the bumper is, has been squashed a bit.

A very nice girl from the their insurance company, starting with their client has said it was their fault, so they will have my car repairedat hteir garage and provide a courtesy car from a different comapny.
The company providing the courtesy car will phoning me and asking for my card details and asking if I want to pay (or not) £6 pay day so there is no eccess to pay should anything happen in the courtesy car...
Now this is a first so what would be the best thing to do..
Do I have to let them choose the garage where my car will be repaired? or can I send the quotes I had done as
I know these garages?

If terry's watching I know he's expert at this but any advice please..

thanks

Smiley, there has been quite a bit of correspondence about this on the motoring section of the Weekend Telegraph (Honest John column). He will answer queries with good advice if you e-mail him at: letters@honestjohn.co.uk

Mind you don't get hit with the charges for a credit hire car which may fall to you if the insurer thinks that the repair time is too long. I agree have a look at the HJ website. My daughter had a RR TDV8 brand new supplied as a temporary replacement for her 8 year old Saab 9-3. she sent it back immediately as her cars repair was onlya repaint job on the rear bumper ( £350 approx) and the loan car was over that per day! In the end her own insurer provided a courtesy car from the accident repair shop.

hi smiley,
it may be too late now as it is 8days since your posting but your OP raises 2 questions, in the event of a shunt "or rear ender as you put it" your first and only point of call should be to your own insurance company, they will process the claim and arrange repaires and courtesy car for you, any contact from the other driver or his insurance company should be refered back to your insuarance and any contact made by the other parties should be refused with the comment please contact my insurance co at this address as they are the ones dealing with my claim. your insurance should recover any costs from them and the courtesy should be free of charge
and fully insured without any exess being paid, this leads to the second question never give your card details to any third party like a hire company as they can have hidden charges that will leave you out of pocket it is harder to get back any costs once charged than to refuse to pay in the first place, again refer them to your insurance as they are the ones dealing with your claim,
