Help - PIN verification

Although I hardly ever buy anything using my phone I had no choice today. I went to pay and when logging in I was told that to confirm my identity a PIN number would be sent to my phone. This duly arrived.
However on accessing the message to get the PIN number I got logged out of the website. When logging in again it sent off another message so the previous PIN number was no longer valid.
I have had this issue with some other sites and do not know how to access the PIN number, then remember it to input it to gain access to the website. I have a 3 year old Samsung A10 phone.

Secondly, if you have a tablet on 4G/5G can you switch it to wifi to use at home? We have no mobile signal at home unless I walk outside and up the road. We are thinking of upgrading the current Samsung tablet which is wifi only and hoping to use the Whatsapp app and some others on it if that is possible otherwise no point in upgrading.

Cant answer you first point, wxcept to say that its isn't necsarily the speed of your phoe that might be the problem, but more likely the quality/stength of teh network signal in your location.

The second point is far easier, and yes you should be able to switch a mobile device rom using "Mobile Data" to local WiFi. Look in your instructions.

I think you misunderstood the issue. No issue receiving the text message but when you switch to read the message to get the PIN, you are then logged out of the original website as you have left it.

I cannot look in the instructions if I do not yet have the tablet. I know I can do it with a phone but unsure about an Android tablet.

Technically it is not a PIN number, but a one time use conformation code which might vary in length and may have letters.

I understand the problem. But to fix it on your tablets, have the code sent to your phone. In that way you don’t need to exit a window in order to look for the code. Next, are you actually closing the first window or minimising it. I can’t remember how to do this on an Android so can’t help there. But this might help. It should now be possible to keep a number or apps running on a phone or tablet. Just like Windows on a PC.

On the other point, if you have a sim/data enabled tablet. You should still get WiFi in settings. There is probably a preference setting to use WiFi before data.

Personally I would not bother paying the extra for a data enabled tablet as long as I have a phone to tether too. Why pay for two sims.

Re. WhatsApp. Non data tablets can use it as long as they are linked to a phone, just a tiny delay. You will find an app in the play store.

My phone, Mac and IPad take the code and offer it to me on the website that generated. So on most websites you don’t have to leave the page. Just confirm and the code is inputted.
But for the odd ones that prefer to send by email and not message I just open the mail app. Look at the code then go back to the web page and input it.

Surprised if a tablet does not have wifi integrated. Best to look at the specifications of the ones of interest.

Possibly another angle to come at the replacement tablet issue?
Offered as possible food for thought.

Rather than pay the purchase premium for a SIM enabled tablet, and more importantly the cost of running another SIM, I simply tether my and the wife's tablets to my mobile phone. I tend to far from exhaust my monthly data allowance.
I always have the phone when out caravanning. If there is a mobile signal to have worked the tablet, there would be one to work the mobile, unless on different networks.
Plus, I can park the phone where the signal is best, and at the same time avoid my body or hands baulking the mobile aerial.

I do exactly that. Plus we have two phones deliberately on different services to further increase the chances of a signal both phone and data.

It is on the phone that I am having an issue getting the confirmation code from the message to the website to be able to log in. I was wondering if there was a way around this.

The table a Samsung S wifi is several or more years old and becoming a bit unresponsive or can be very slow to access websites. No idea if you cna format it, but we are scared of losing date like photos.

Also cannot use Whatsapp on it as it is not optimised for Whatsapp and some other applications that we use from time to time. Theses applications work alright on the phones, but not on tablet.

If we were able to use Whatsapp on a newer tablet using wifi that would be brilliant, but if someone phones you using Whatsapp then we would need to answer using the phone. Not sure if call can be transferred to Whatsapp but guess just as simple to call them back.

A bit difficult to know what 'buttons' you're pressing.

Assuming you have your browser open to be able to get onto the web site you should be able to just switch to the Messaging app without closing the web site, so I'm not sure how you're doing that.

Typically at the bottom of the screen there are three virtual buttons - Navigation buttons. Back, Home and Recent.

If you have the web page open and then press the Home icon you go to the home page of your phone and should then be able to open your Messaging app without closing the browser.

Depending on your Messaging app you may be able to do a long press on the code which will copy it to the clipboard.

Then you can press the Recent icon which will show you the open apps and you can select the web page again.

You may then be able to do a long press on the field for the code number and be able to paste it in.

Googles messaging app pops up a notification at the top of the screen with the option to copy the code but in the actual message app you can only copy the whole text message. Other apps will allow you to copy just the code from the message directly

I am not up to date with Android. But, I would think, if set up correctly, the code should self fill on the phone. But see if the YouTube ink helps with how to work on multiple apps.

Regarding your data/photos. Are they backed up to your computer, (if there is one). Do you have a working google account? Like iCloud on Apple it should sync all the devices that use the same login. You will then have all your photos available on all devices and secure.

I know some are concerned about the cloud. But as long as you are in control you can make sure that confidential info is not sent there. Personally, I could not care who looks at my photos. But I would respect their boredom threshold.

Whatsapp is dependent on a phone signal to operate properly. (although it does allow for internet call to be made). for this reason it needs to be linked to a phone number. If you download the Android app and look at this link for info.

Just tried another site and can go to Messages to get verification code and then back to original page. Seems the issue was only with Paypal. Thanks to the posts above I have now been able to link the verification code to the website so when notification appears I select it and verification code is inputted into the website page I have opened. What a palaver, but learnt something new!

Probbably would not have been such an issue if we had mobile coverage where the laptop is located as had to go outside to do the transaction on the phone.

But it does show that you use two stage verification, very wise.

To protect your "data" photos.
I would think your Samsung S series can accept an SD card, so with an adequately size card in place photos on your device, can readily be transferred from the device storage to the SD card.
Here is a Video link

BUT, instead of doing MOVE I recommend you do COPY, so until you have safely secured the photos to another device, I would leave the original as a backup on the device.
Ideally you should after copying them "unmount" the SD card; Google again will show you that simple operation. This is the safe way to ensure on removing the SD card it does not get corrupted, though if the device is "off" it probably would not.
Once on the SD card this can be read by PCs etc and transferred from then onto a cheap USB memory stick; the options are numerous.

This link may explain the failing Whatsapp ???

As it is due to pulled support for the operating system then it will be any device running one of the unsupported OS, not just mobiles.

Strange how articles use emotive words and find it necessary to repeat the content of the title in the first 3 paragraphs. But Also to use the word 'blocked'. As with ALL apps, Whatsapp is simply not supporting older operating systems.

However you could well be right, In fact your description covered it much better. I just hate the poor quality of reporting. Rant over.

SD cards are a little fiddly to insert and remove from phones and tablets. You can just use a USB memory stick plugged into the device.

You may need to get an adapter cable or just the right USB stick that plugs in directly.
