Help please

we are going to buy a new Burstner S class, MTPLM 2000 kg. My Peugeot 406 estate is going to struggle a bit towing it so am going to have to change the car as well any suggestions ? thanks.

All 3 Burstners with an MTPLM of 2000kg are 2.5m wide so you'd need something like a Mercedes Sprinter van with a GVW of 3.5 tonnes or more to tow them legally in the UK.

Yes you will have to change the car. The Max weight the 406 will tow is 1500Kg. Your choice of 'van leaves you with either the 4WD option, or a Ford Galaxy / Seat Alhambra / VW Sharan.

Not even a 4x4 or a Ford Galaxy/Seat Alhambra/VW Sharan will pull anything like that legally in the UK.

Thanks Phil my 406 will only tug 1300 kg, and I think I would be struggling with the ford,vw and the seat.

I think this question to Kanga has backfired.
for ever on the ball Lutz, respect ! Oh well back to the drawing board. I just hate the c**p that goes on in this site at times and hate myself even more at this moment for letting my self get pulled into it.Can well understand why some people want to get out.Regards Peter w.

I fully sympathise with you. As far as possible I ignore the drivel so none of the adversaries have had cause to have a go at me.

the width of the van is 2.3m max (http://www.derbycaravancentre.com/new-caravan-sales/burstner-caravans/burstner-caravan-range-2005.pdf)

So any of the heavy 4x4's will tow it well and legaly in the UK

The 630TS that the Derby Caravan Centre lists in the 2005 range cannot be found in the 2006 range any more. The Burstners with an MTPLM of 2000kg are now the 650TK, 690TS and the 720TK and all of these are 2.5m wide.

I understand the towing legal width limit in this country is 7'6". Anything over this width will need a 3.5 tonne truck as the towing vehicle to be within the legal limits. I'm with you Lutz on this one!

your spot on Ann
