I have a 1990 TALBOT EXPRESS RAMBLER 2000 cc petrol.. I have had it for about 18 month and has always had this problem. I f I Leave it for more than a couple of days and then try and start it, it kicks over for anything up to 8 times beforer it will start. I have tried everything I know, even fitting a one way valve in the petrol lead.
Is this common with this Talbot or is there any thing I could do.
PS . Starts first time once it has started and up to 2days after being left

Genpen,
I still think your problem is fuel related, I had a 1988 Talbot with exactly the same symptoms and I fixed it with a 'One way fuel valve' like this one :

The mechanical pump does not maintain the pressure to keep the petrol up at the carburettor, hence it starting after 8 tries, it's a mechanical pump, so you are physically pumping the petrol up by turning it over.
I know you said you have already got a valve, but have you tested it ? and they are cheap enough to get anyway.

Thanks for your reply. I agree I still think like you its fuel problem. The valve I have fitted is 2" from the carb between carb and fuel filter. The valve seems ok but I will try another one ( your ebay link didn't work
